When I first came to live here, 53 years ago this week, we moved in to live with my ex's cousin, he worked for him. They had 5 children but made us welcome as well. The lady was making these olieballs, I had never heard of them before, I couldn't speak Dutch so I couldn't ask why she was making so many, I thought she was making them for all the villagers!!! The kitchen was full, buckets, trays etc. They had visitors for New Years Eve etc and then I realised why she had made so many.

Those do look yummy Lizzie.
Thanks Nan2, I'm looking forward to it. When I started the cold I wasn't sure we would be having it.
Oma, I made the mulled wine yesterday, it just needs warming now
It is pouring down here so I have told everyone to come in when they arrive and not wait in the rain!βA grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.β β Unknown

Morning ladies ,
I hope everyone had a good night last night ,
Those who had parties I hope you donβt have too much of a hangover and those who didnβt I hope you had a peaceful night.
We stayed up watching a film , I was surprised that looking out of the window all the houses were in darkness , no one had stayed up this year and we had no fireworks,
It was a spectacular show in London last night but I couldnβt help thinking all those Β£1000s of pounds used on fireworks could have done so much good elsewhere .
Have a happy day ladies xxxIm not fat just 6ft too small

Good morning Oma. Good morning ladies.
I agree with what you say about the fireworks Oma.
No hangover here, just the annoying cough still!
We had a great night but missed our friend. I'll write more on the NYE thread
No plans today. Part of me wants to go to the coast for fresh air and to blow the cobwebs away. The other part wants a lazy day. As it looks a bit damp out there and my cold hasn't fully gone, the latter part will win
Some clearing up to do today but we made a start last night .βA grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.β β Unknown

Good Morning everyone and a Happy New 2023's day I hope everyone enjoyed any gatherings they had last night or like me just happy with my own company.
The fireworks that went off where a delight to watch I can see them from my bedroom window right across The Mersey to Liverpool and the boats and tugs on the River letting off the Fog Horns to welcome the New Year.
This morning I have put in a leg of lamb to roast my DS1 is coming to dinner tonight before he goes to work on his night shift and Jim next door loves a bit of lamb as does Oliver !! The said cat has not been home for 2 days he has taken up residence next door he hates the rain and will not come across the back in the rain he is such a woss.
On Saturday I bought some new clear plastic storage boxes for storing all the Christmas decorations away I can then see where everything is for future reference,I have so many lovely gift bags and wrapping paper to keep nice along with cards and tags of all descriptions I plan to start taking down my decorations on Wednesday then do a mini spring clean throughout .
I took myself off to Dunelm to search for tartan throw's to warm up my lounge but they didn't have any in the red that I wanted I can see them on E-bay but they don't look good material at all so hoping JL may have some I'm going to check on line before I travel over to Liverpool.
Here's hoping everyone has a good & relaxing day today sending best wishes to everyone
Glamma xx

I went next door last evening and joined the family for a meal, GD2 and her partner cooked a lovely salmon dinner and GS1, his wife and family stayed overnight. they played a silly game on their I pads connected to the television, including GD1 and her OH in their flat. We watched the fireworks from Sidney. I went to bed at 11. Today I am doing nothing, still got some celery soup for lunch and I have eggs. Tomorrow I must shop. Still not feeling great.
Gemini, your evening sounds lovely with friends and family. The sea air sounds good, I could do with that.
Glamm, Roast lamb sounds good, I am sure your DS and Jim will enjoy it as will you. The fireworks and horns across the Mersey certainly brought in the New Year.

I have just been to visit DS1 and family, the Dutch tradition is for all children and grandchildren to visit the parents on New years day, I am not one for traditions!
Friends of mine moved to an 11th floor penthuis a few years ago, she was saying how wonderful it would be to watch the fireworks from up there, the first year was thick fog followed by 2 years of the lockdown situation. It was so clear last night I was wondering what their view would be like, I got a message and call, it was amazing!! They could see all round them and Rotterdam etc included in their aerial view!
