    Plant
I bet your shattered after yesterday ,
My MIL isnโ€™t used to lots of people around so Christmas Day after we took her home she fell asleep watching TV ,
Boxing day she had company all day and it took it out of her.

Hope a lazy day today will charge your batteries ๐Ÿ˜

I have cleaned everything downstairs only bedrooms tomorrow and that wonโ€™t take long .
I must admit I had a hours nap before I tackled the kitchen .

DD SIL and Storm arrived so I had to stop for a while anyway , then when they went I lay on the sofa and enjoyed the rest .
Myhouse is back to normal thank goodness.

Plant, I'm so glad you enjoyed the family gathering yesterday, but no wonder you are tired today. The buffet sounds delicious - we did Waitrose party food for DS1's birthday in the summer and it was superb.

Oma, what are you like! I bet you didn't do all that cleaning standing on one foot! You must have really needed that rest. What a pity about your curtains, but at least you can take them down and wash them - more than we can do with the red wine all over white walls and ceiling!

The panto was very good. I don't think I've seen so many costume changes in a professional panto, let alone an amateur group. It was good with some excellent vocals, and the traditional audience participation! Although I don't think Buttons was meant to sling 5 toilet rolls in to the audience when they did a skit on The Twelve Days of Christmas. Someone threw them back, anyway! GD2 knew two adult members of the cast - one her class' current teaching assistant, the other one a TA from her Infants School. The other grannie and I remarked to each other that we would have had neither the time or energy to do AmDram when we were teaching! I think GD1 enjoyed it but she was glad of her mum's noise-cancelling headphones (she's very noise sensitive and I think it's got worse since she was ill).

Just about to start on dinner - I think it will be bacon and eggs as I said earlier - easy and tasty!

Daisy, glad the panto was good.

Gem, probably a good thing you didn't visit your mum.

Plant, hope you have recharged your batteries now.

          Raining this morning.

Not sure what we are doing today. Don't know if we are just supermarket shopping or what.

Good Saturday morning Nanto and all who follow. It's wet and dark here, but very mild - 14C on the garden thermometer.

I hope there's some let up in the rain so I can take Eva for a good run. Otherwise nothing much on until going round to friends for New Year's Eve tonight.

Happy New Year's Eve to you too Nan2, and everyone else

Yes, I am glad I didn't go to see mum, not worth the risk to her and others.

Christmas socialising is lovely but tiring Plant. Rest as much as you can until you are better.

I'm glad the panto was a success Daisy.

How is the foot today Oma?

Today is just preparing for tonight's party. Guests are invited from 7the food will be ready at 7. OH will go with someone else to collect the orders from the Chinese and Indian restaurants. There is just one pizza needed so I have ordered that to be delivered as they are very reliable with their timings.

Good morning, it is very wet and windy here, I was reading a lot of the firework displays in the cities are being cancelled, Scheveningen had theirs a day early because of the forecast.

I just got wet cycling home from the library, my jacket is waterproof but not the jeans I was wearing. Many queues in the village at the bakers etc for the "olieballs". They would all get caught in the heavy shower.

I am waiting for a delivery from Holland and Barratt then I can make my ointment! I usually get it from the neighbour but I know now how to make it myself.

                  Gem, enjoy your evenings celebrations.xx

Daisy, pleased you all enjoyed the pantomine.

Lizzie, you will have to explain what olieballs are, they must be good if customers queue for them

Gemini have a lovely gathering this evening, fun and games and yummy food.

Oma, pleased to hear your foot is better.

I have just got dressed and am exhausted, throat not so painful. I am almost out of necessary food such as milk but I am sure they will not let me starve, problem is I donโ€™t fancy anything and not up to cooking. I am an old misery.

                        Plant, the full story https://expatshaarlem.nl/oliebollen-dutch-new_year/

oli 2.jpg olie 3.jpg I have made them over the years, when Ds's were younger I used to make so many they were delivering them all day long to the neighbours! DS2 was only talking about it at Christmas. His friend only liked plain ones, so, he got a dish full of plain ones.

Before the lockdown the best stalls would be placed in the newspapers here, DS2 lived in Rotterdam and the stall near his house won year after year, the people would queue night and day for his olieballs!!!! I went to DS2 house one day, just before New Year, I couldn't believe how many people were queuing.

You should have stayed in your night wear and just relax and pamper yourself .

Oma, I do like them if I make them myself and they are just out of the pan!!! Not very healthy, but, delicious!!

My jeans are hung on the line to dry, it has rained most of the day, not as bad now so maybe they can still have the fireworks, I can hear them banging now so it can't be as wet as it was.
