I haven't made any this year either, Gem. Every year I make mince pies, gingerbread, rockie road but It doesn't really get eaten until long after christmas. This year DH said don't bother, everyone's too full to eat lots of sweet things, so I haven't . I don't really think we'll miss them to be honest. (I always eat far too much any way )

Oma - Oh dear - Aldi's being so crowded so early is bad news. Poor you, though. You need one of those shopping carts that you can wheel along while you're having to do all the shopping yourself. I find it really hard to carry much, and it puts me off shopping if OH can't come with me.

I have made one batch of mince pies already but of course they got eaten! I'll make some more before the family party on the 27th. I've also got to decorate the Christmas cake - I'd forgotten all about it.

Enfys - I agree with your OH - I used to make loads of cakes etc, but it just ends up with us eating them up and our waistlines aren't very forgiving these days! But then it is nice to have some seasonal treats.

I have to ice and decorate the cake too Daisy. I think that will be a job for tomorrow.

I had a lovely afternoon. Leisurely lunch and chat with a friend, while OH did the last of the Christmas food shop!

Oma - well you needed a variety of goodies to tempt Mr O into eating.

Tiredness has caught up with me again and I have done nothing tonight!

Gem - glad you had a good lunch and chat with your friend. I'm struggling with organising the food shop since most of it isn't needed until next Tuesday, so I'm hoping fresh stuff like salad ingredients will be in the shops that morning.

Three dozen mince pies made today, they are for a family gathering in DD,s Friday. Don't do cakes anymore, OH used to love fruit cake after Christmas with a glass of port.

Morning all. It's the third year in a row that I won't be making any mince pies this Christmas. As there is only the two of us it's pointless less as we would never eat them all. I have ordered two boxes of mince pies that will be delivered in my grocery order tomorrow for anyone who pops by over the festive season.
When I think back to the Christmasas we used to have when our DC were young and we used to have a house full of people it was non stop preparation from about mid September onwards.
Dad used to grow shallots which were picked by me. Christmas puddings were made, Christmas cake was made and fed regularly with brandy (hic) . As it got closer to Christmas the cake was iced, mince pies and sausage rolls were made. A chocolate log was also made along with sausages on sticks, sausage tolls and a trifle.
Its makes me feel a little sad that that has all gone by so , Christmas isn't quite the same anymore.

Plant - I'll just pop round for a coffee and a mince pie if I may! I'll probably make mine tomorrow - after the dreaded supermarket trip.

Nanto - what a nice cheerful graphic for a dull, dark day.

I woke up at 5 am and couldn't get back to sleep. This is not like me at all, so I got up and started the ironing. I can hear the cries of disbelief from you all, but it's true! I'm fed up with it now though so thought I'd take a break. It still feels like the middle of the night. And I bet by lunch time I'll need a Nana nap!

                    Have a good day everyone.

Mimi - I know what you mean. I was remembering the other day that for years we used to have Open House on Boxing Day. I'd make huge quantities of something like chilli con carne, plus quiches, sausage rolls, salads, chicken drumsticks, trifles, cakes, mince pies, cheese cake and Christmas cake. I'm not quite sure how I managed it but it all seemed to happen! At least I didn't have to cook again before New Year's Eve as there were always plenty of leftovers. It's not the same now, but things change and I certainly couldn't do all that cooking these days. I must admit the thought of having a quiet day on boxing Day is very attractive, and a couple of days before New Year's Eve. I'm trying to get everything done so I can relax on Christmas Eve, too, instead of racing round like a loony prepping for Christmas Day.

                        Good morning everyone

                        Ironing at 5am Daisy!!

Not much going on today, so I may have to do a little ironing too. Only after I finish the present wrapping though.
Mum and I had planned to see my sister and take her presents today. My hospital appointment is at 4.30 however, and the thought of getting mum home after the visit then myself to hospital in time was stressing me, so we will do that tomorrow. It makes tomorrow a busy day, but it is the better option.

Up from 2.30 as my shoulder was hurting from yesterday managed to fall asleep on sofa for couple hours when pain killers kicked in , my eye felt itchy and gritty this morning and I discovered a stye forming , well that's all I need a scabby eye for Christmas 😲😀

Morning ladies its chilly here today, going to wrap up warm for walking. My cold has really starting coming out now, but hopefully by the big day will be on the wane. Hubs is getting some bits and bobs today and the plan is to go either very early or very late Friday to get anything I have forgotten. Good luck at the hospital Gem.
