I have been a poorly person (apart from the ribs) and really out of sorts this week but went to a new site in the middle of London today. I agreed a community plan with them. To get there I went on the tube, got to the changeover tube station (South Kensington for those who know London - mostly none of you I expect) and the platform was busy with people waiting for the next tube. All of a sudden there was an anguished cry from a Chinese (well he might have been Korean or something but he looked Chinese) bloke who I had seen leaning over the side of the platform (idiot) taking pictures of the track. I suspect he had seen a mouse scurrying around and was taking pictures of that, it happens a lot on the tube! Anyway he had dropped his Apple iPhone on the track and he wanted the whole network to be shut down because he had dropped his phone! The tube worker who came to help said no he wasn't going to shut the line down, Chinese man got very agitated and verbose and was chucking himself all over the platform in despair. Then along came the train and flattened said phone. Oh my goodness you would have thought someone had died! He wanted the police called, he was going to get compensation (it took a while to sort out that was what he was saying) everybody was a f*ckhead and worse (I have never called anyone that, ever) but then we were all laughing at him and his tantrum which was frankly pretty epic and the laughing probably annoyed him even more, Oh well, kept me amused for a little while.

Got home about 4pm and at 6pm got a call to say that the student that was starting on a site in London for work experience couldn't make it. This is the second one since Wednesday and the placement starts on Monday. I had already arranged preferential terms for him as he is at college for a BTec in civil engineering and working in the evenings to fund himself. The co ordinator said that she could get someone else but I said not to. The site is a difficult one to work with and I would rather not give them yet another name. So annoying. If these kids really want work experience they have to knuckle down and get themselves to the placements not call off at the last minute. Work ethic needs to be instilled. Rant over.

On on another note, I have a sum of money left from a grant I was given a few years ago. I asked for a £10,000 donation to my Time to Shine project which was in danger of not going ahead this year and which I withdrew from last year, I wrote a business case for £10K to be given to the project and I heard today it will be paid. I am exceptionally pleased.

Zizi - sorry to hear you are still not your usual bouncy self. How annoying that a second student has dropped out of a placement. There may be a really good reason, but you can't help thinking that it's the work ethic that's missing. I'm sure the news about the grant cheered you up.

I had to smile about the man losing his phone! Ok, you'd be upset if you'd been silly enough to drop your phone on the track, but it sounds as though he was making a real to-do about it. I can just imagine his claim to his insurance company!!

Today I was going to make and freeze Parsnip Soup ready for some friends coming round for lunch next Friday. I've got to get organised because I've got usual term-time child care for the grand daughters, and half-term care for the grandsons, so will be rather busy. But I'd only got red onions in which I thought would make the soup a funny colour. OH said he just had a couple of quick phone calls to make then he'd pop down to the village and get the onions and a couple of other things we needed. So that's when I thought I quickly have a go at making scones (see the Great Scone Debate thread for the full experience!) Four hours later I was still waiting! If I'd realised how long two quick calls took I'd have gone myself! Needless to say by then I'd wasted loads of time, didn't get the soup made and was very grumpy. I did a bit of the ironing which made me ever grumpier.

            Good evening.
Some people are very attached to their phones Zizi!
Good news about the Time To Shine donation.

Oma, I'm glad your migraine finally improved, and that SIL is going to do your wallpapering!

Teething baby didn't want to sleep much today! It snowed as I drove to collect GD and walk to the school, but only light flurries, nothing too bad.

Goodness I didn't realise I was so far behind on this thread. Crikey, there's been loads happening.... good & bad. I couldn't possibly answer to all the posts (bruddy M.E). Just a couple. Gem thanks for remembering me on your hols, you'll have to tell your OH about it or she'll wonder what the joke is. I'm also pleased that you're feeling ok with how your health is progressing.

Tomoro, (or should I say today?) I'm off to help DD1 again. Wish me luck 😱

                    Hello everyone.
I hope all goes well at your daughter's, Nana.
Glad you got more sleep Nan2.

We are eating out tonight with a group of close friends, a birthday celebration.
Nothing else planned today apart from more Disney fastpass booking at midday. I owe several emails however, so must get those done. None of the holiday paperwork is actually on paper yet, so I may get some printing done. Oh, and both cars need taxing, another job for today.
                    Enjoy your Saturday everyone

                            Good morning everyone.

Nana - enjoy lots of baby cuddles. I hope your daughter has recovered from the delivery now and is getting some sleep.

Nanto - glad to hear you slept better.

Mimi - sounds like downward dog all the way. Take care if it's slippy.

LG - Enjoy your walk - the scenery looks very nice. I hope it includes stopping off somewhere nice and cosy for refreshments!

Oma - Martin will be really pleased you've gone over to see him. I'm sure you'll make him laugh and take his mind off hiw worries for a while. We'll all be cheering him on when the 15 th comes.

We had a few flakes of snow last night, but nothing to show for it this morning. It's dull, cold and slightly drizzly. I'm washing bedding today - 4 beds to be done. Ours as always, plus the 3 spare beds for number one son and two grandsons staying on Tuesday night. The washing machine and the dryer are going to be busy - I'm not even going to try and hang them out!

Gem - sounds like a lovely evening out. Enjoy.
