Thankfully we have a lovely cosy electric fire in the brick surround fireplace, as far as I know ours is the only flat only that has something like that, mostly the flats just have radiators .
Work was supposed to start today but there wasn't a soul around. It's hard luck if they come knocking on my door tomorrow as we have an appointment at the dentist . For some unexplained reason myself and OH have our dental appointment on the same day, we are both booked in at the same time seeing the same person, she will call us in together!

Mimi your joint dental appointment should be interesting to say the least. Are you going to sit on OH's lap? 😀

The Gas Board probably doesn't worry too much about how people cope at such times. During the time of the 3 day week in the 70s we were getting daily power cuts and our gas supply was converted from town gas to North Sea gas. It was the end of January, DS1 was just a toddler and was very ill, OH had been transferred with his job to the other end of the country and there I was, no heating, no cooking facilities and no lights. It made me very wary of depending on single power sources, so we have gas central heatin, gas stove and a woodburner, I keep loads of candles and matches and I've even got an oil lamp. I suppose it's a sort of War mentality

Daisy I can remember the 70s power cuts. Electricity was rationed, long spells of no power at all. Because of this I also have a drawer full of candles, a torch in my bedside drawer, and plenty of matches. I can remember one night , before I was married I was going out on a date and even though the house was in complete darkness I managed to get my makeup on by candlelight. Nothing was going to stop me going out.

Mimi, i remember the power cuts of the 70s well. We were married, so i didn't have to worry about getting make up on.
Have a good day everyone, whatever your plans are.

Good morning everyone, sunny day here.

I hope you have nice lunch out Mimi, it's good to treat yourselves! A joint dental appointment, what fun

Well, we had strange night last night!! During the morning OH told me one of our friends had texted and asked if we wanted to meet them after work in town for a meal at 6pm. We had nothing much on yesterday, and although I was meeting a friend for lunch I knew it would be a soup or sandwich kind of lunch, rather than a substantial one, so would be able to manage an early evening meal!
We drove the 4 miles to town, parked and walked to the restaurant. We arrived about 5 minutes past the meeting time. The friends were not there, so we got a drink and waited.... and waited. Eventually we both tried phoning and texting the friend we had a number for. No reply. We checked and there were no bookings at all for 6pm (being Monday people were just walking in and getting a table) and no bookings for any time that night under our friends name. So, puzzled and in my case a little worried that something was wrong, we finished our drink then as we were there and by now it was gone 7 decided we may as well eat anyway, rather than drive home and start cooking. As we were eating the friend phoned. She hadn't answered her phone as she had been to Weight Watchers! Apparently as she had mentioned to OH a couple of days previously us maybe meeting up on Friday night, and this later text referred to Friday, not last night! OH had assumed a text yesterday saying 'Do you want to meet J and me after work at 6?' , meant that night. I can see both sides of it, but OH was really cross!!! Now they want us to go on Friday and 2 of our other friends are also going. We are not going, partly because OH doesn't want to on principle, and partly because we are not made of money and are going on an expensive holiday soon, so 2 unplanned for meals out in a week are too much! OH dear (Our meal was nice though )

GS1 day. His daddy dropped him off before 9, and I will drive him home after giving him his tea. We are at the moment watch the Trolls movie which he brought with him.. I think we will go to the playpark later, and as it is his mummy's birthday on Friday I will encourage him to make card, if he's in the mood!

Had a call yesterday from the Secretary of the Cardiologist who was investigating the reason for my falls. I thought he had done his job and nothing had been found to cause them. I do remember he said he wanted to fit a reveal device which apparently is fitted just under the skin to find out if there are any irregularities in my heart. I thought he had decided not to go ahead with this so was surprised to hear that it is still on his agenda. Waiting for as date now.

Feeling very tired after my bowls game yesterday, we won! so I will not be doing much today. I might pop to the shops for a card and present for DD and a little peek in a dress shop.

Oh dear what a muddle up Gemini, eating out is expensive.

Well there's a lot going on on here. Who said life gets easier when you retire. First time meeting up of all four GC yesterday. Phew. Super to all be together but boy is it exhausting.

Plant I'm going for my heart echo later today then a heart monitor fitted Friday for 48hrs. Just on the 'precautionary' side so I'm not worried. Congratulations on your win Plant.

Oma I'm so pleased to hear your BIL is making a good recovery.

Afternoon ladies been a busy morning ,went to Dunhelm to but another set of my new bedding for changing and I wanted something nice to hang on bedroom wall , went to all the places on the retail park but no one had what I'm looking for . (To be truthful I have no idea either ) I'm sure I will know when I find it , we then went to MIL,s and I let slip we had gone to see BIL on Sunday , well you would think we had stolen the crown jewels she was so annoyed we hadn't taken her , but she's hard work and BIL wasn't up to it so had to promise to take her this weekend , I have warned her though if I don't think he's up to visitors she will have to wait . We then went to Morrisons for Bagels and came out with cakes for B and scones for me 😀

Afternoon ladies, Gem what a mix up . I can see why OH was annoyed.
                      Congratulations on your win Plant.

Back from the dentist and very pleased to report no treatment needed for the both of us.
We had a pub meal and then ( now this is where I can hardly contain my excitement) we went to Wilko where I brought a new cover for my roatary washing line, some seed trays and seeds . I got some of dad's favourites, Sweetpea, Salvia and Coleus. Also brought a red Dahlia tuber and a purple Gernium tuber. The dahlia is going to go in my new planter . Ohhhh can't wait to start planting.

Oma, i can understand your MIL being a bit miffed, but if it M wasn't up to it, perhaps it was for the best.
Plant, hope your appointment is soon.
Mimi, what a good spend up you had in Wilkos. i do like there shops though.
Gem, certainly was a mix up, but these things happen.

Evening ladies. I know I've nearly missed posting on here today - but it's been a long, long 2 days.

Oma - I hope M is continuing to make progress. What a pity your MIL is such hard work - but his recovery comes first. You may remember we decorated out living room almost a year ago - and I'm still trying to decide on photos, pictures or canvases for the fireplace wall. We've got a canvas of the original that our GransRus logo was adapted from, and that goes very nicely in there, but I still don't know what I want over the fireplace! At least we had somewhere to hand decorations during the last month of 2016!!!

Gem - I think your friends weren't very clear in what they intended. No wonder your OH was a bit cross with them. I hope GS1 made his mummy's birthday card today. I was greeted this morning with a lovely card GD1 had made for me - no special reason, but very sweet.

Nana - it's lovely to have all the GCs together, but there is a sigh of relief when they all go home again. xx

Plant - good to hear the bowling's going well, and great to know your cardiologist is still looking after you so well.

Mimi - I can see my social life isn't complete - we don't have a Wilco round here. I feel deprived!

We've just had 2 lovely, but exhausting days with both granddaughters here. They are such a joy, but I'm still shattered, but wanted to pop in here before collapsing into bed.

Very windy here this morning. It's bin day, and 2 of the neighbours bins across the road, have blown over, and all the rubbish is on the pavement and road.
I think i will put ours a bit later. Cardboard being collected today,so not a lot of weight in.
Daisy, hope you get a few relaxing days, after having the GDs.

                                Good morning all.
Its also very windy here. I noticed on the weather news yesterday they said it's storm Doris . Now I thought 'she ' made an appearance a week or so ago, has she returned to have another go I wonder?

Poor DS somehow managed to get his hand caught in the car door as it was closing, he has been up all night with the pain. He can move his hand and fingers so I don't think anything is broken.
We are still waiting for the gas men to come . Apparently they are still a few streets away, they are running behind time with their estimated work dates. Knowing my luck they will get here when the cold snap returns.
Have a nice day today and if you are going out and you wear a hat, hang on to it or Doris will snatch it off you !
