I have worn varifocals for some years, I also have reading glasses for close work when I remember. You have to move your head quite a lot wearing varifocals, I couldn't shop without them, can't be bothered to keep changing glasses. I know they don't suit everyone. Just come back from a trip out and the roads were full of enormous pop holes following that storm, some of the roads had recently been resurfaced.

That sounds an interesting trip Lizzie, well done to the young man.

Lizzie sounds a very interesting trip , at least you got to try the bikes so when its time for a new one you already know what they are like .

Plant - it sounds as though you got much the same storm as us last night. No fun at all for driving in. I'm glad you got yourself and your friends home safely.

Gem - at least you haven't got to take and pick up from Beavers. Those trips always seem so much worse in the winter, don't they. I hope your longer journey went well, and I'm pleased your mum likes your new car. I hope the insurance hike isn't too bad.

Oma - I think it's really hard to choose frames - I never know what suit me and what don't, even with Specsavers clever technology that shows you how they'd look.

Lizzie - your two days sound lovely as well as interesting. I'm sure you were tempted by all those lovely new e-bikes. What a relief for your swimming friend and his wife that the operation went so well. I hope her recover goes as smoothly.

Yesterday our road was closed for repairs, but by the time we got back from the hospital the workmen had given up and gone home - now all the holes they'd dug ready to repair are full of water, so I don't know what will happen next. Today as I mentioned we went out to a country hotel for coffee and lunch. We had an interesting talk on fire safety in the home - I'll write about it separately - and then lunch. But getting there was fun - nearly every road we went on was flooded, and at one point I had to turn round and go back because it was too deep to risk driving through it. I certainly picked the wrong day to be the chauffeur! Eventually the sun came out and by the time we came home the roads were a bit better, thank goodness. Oma - there were loads of potholes, but they were all flooded so hard to tell how deep they might have been.

                  Good morning ladies
                  Nice peaceful picture Nan2.
Storm gets his day at Nanna's today then Oma
Daisy, I hope those potholes are filled up soon
It reminds me of the road at the end of DD1s road. It is an unadopted road and runs along the end of the 5 short streets, one of which DD lives on. I avoid driving along it if I can and just use it to turn round on as it is full of huge potholes and gets worse year after year. There was an attempt to get residents from the streets to pay to have it fixed. Only DD and SIL and one other family were willing to pay, so it was impossible.

Today I must go over to the Halifax for my mum. She has a dental appointment at 2. I can tell she is wanting to avoid going, although she nagged me to make an appointment! I hope to get her to go, as the tooth could become painful if not, and I will get moaned at again! She has no fear of dentists as such, just general reluctance to do anything now.
I will do her shopping at some point. I have no list so can't do it this morning.

                  Have a good day everyone.

Good morning Nanto, Oma and Gem, plus everyone who comes along later.

Nanto - that's a lovely serene start to the day. Chargrilled chicken sounds very professional - how do you do it?

Oma - do you think Storm is a spoiled doggy? All his toys out etc, just waiting for him to play.

Gem - oh dear, you mum really needs to keep that appointment or it could end up being an emergency if the tooth breaks or gets an abscess. Will you manage to fit everything in round the appointment? Perhaps she'll be keen to have a ride in your new car (hopefully). Unadopted roads can be a big problem, can't they. We still don't know what's happening with our half-done repairs.

I should have been meeting up with my College friends for lunch today, but the lady who organises it, and is the member of the golf club has had to cancel. Both she and her husband have had bad chesty colds etc over New Year, and her OH, who's nearly 90, had to have antibiotics and they've interfered with his Warfarin. He sounds very poorly and she can't leave him for more than a few minutes.

So I've got a 'free' day, and at the moment the sun's shining. If it dries up a bit I'll do some tidying up in the front garden. If it doesn't, well, I might just have to laze around reading my book.

Good morning all. Quiet here now the storm has passed but, my goodness, we had so much rain! We are quite high up but lots of roads and fields are flooded. Still very mild though.

Didn’t do much yesterday, we both overslept so a quick dash to the supermarket was all we managed to do in the morning. Dog sat in the afternoon. He was quite happy playing fetch with his toys and looked so happy so thought I’d take a photo to send to DG. As soon as I pointed the camera/phone at him he turned his back and just would not look at me. I swear he knew what I was doing! If I moved so did he and he was watching me out of the corner of his eyes. I don’t think he’s as daft as he makes out 😀.

Out to lunch with DIL’s parents today. They went away for Christmas so we have lots of catching up. Have a good day everyone 🌞

Enfys - I'm glad you escaped the worst of the flooding. We were going to a hotel between Ringwood and Christchurch yesterday and the awful flooding was at the Christchurch end. We were commenting on the fields adjacent to the by-pass - they were like one huge lake and that's where there's talk of building several hundred houses.

Eva hates you taking her photo - she just turns tail and leaves the room. You have to catch her unawares! It sounds as though Dexter's the same. It's funny isn't it - I wonder what they think's going to happen to them!

Enjoy your lunch with DIL's parents.

                            LOL Oma 😊

Well mum phoned , had 'a bad night', not going to dentist. I tried to persuade her but no luck. She just got shirty with me. I have cancelled but she loses the £30 deposit I had to leave for her. The receptionist said she'll leave it open for now in case she changes her mind as she has to pay anyway.

Oh Gem you knew she was going to do that didn't you ,
My oldest Sister is like that , she makes arrangements then just before hand she has either a upset stomach or a cold , I have never known anyone have so many sniffles as she does , in stead of saying she doesn't want to go in the first place

Well you tried I do hope she doesn't get tooth ache as that's horrible and she may not be seen straight away xx

                                I did Oma.
We have put her on the waiting list at OH's dentist, one of the few NHS ones who are are taking new patients. That is just on the list, so heaven knows when she will be seen.
That's £30 she has lost, which I told her. I didn't make another appointment as I feel she will be so disgusted at the £30 she won't want to go there! I will discuss it with her this afternoon. At last I have the shopping list so I will do that on the way. It's worse than looking after a child as you have no power and can't insist on anything!
