Finally back in circulation after my two busy days.

I thought I'd recovered from hurting my back on Saturday, but it seems it wasn't up for football with a three year old this morning, and I'm in agony again. It's not so bad if I keep moving around, but I'm too tired, so I might just try some painkillers and an early night. What exciting lives we lead!!!

Qwerty - we still haven't got to the bottom of your extra privileges on here. It's a good job we trust you. xx How nice to have a yummy tea from DIL - she does appreciate all you do.

Nanto - I can smell those steak and onion pies from here, and they are delicious! It's just dawned on me that I have a vat of cooked minced beef with onions and carrots in the fridge which I could make into pies for the freezer. Do you make individual ones? Do you have a top and a bottom, and if so do you bake the bottoms blind first? Or do you leave the pastry uncooked and freeze them like that?

Mimi - I would have been the one who followed you into that faulty checkout point!!!

Oma - I hope your friend is soon better. I know who painful disc problems are, and that sounds very severe. Can they do anything to ease her lymphedema in her legs, it must be so uncomfortable for her.

Yesterday was my usual manic day with GD2, plus GD1 after school. Rush home, cook a meal and then dog training from 9 - 11pm. We got home about 11.30 with head too full of training instructions to go straight to bed, so it was well after midnight, then I woke a couple of times and got up again just before 6am. No wonder I'm shattered!! I don't know how our GRU insomniacs cope on so little sleep.

Tomorrow looks like a free day for me, so I could catch up with some gardening, including mowing the lawn, but the forecast is for rain, and my back is hurting too much to crawl around the greenhouse floor weeding etc. Still, we need the rain and it gives me an excuse for a lazy day.

          Hi everyone.
I'm sorry your back is still hurting Daisy.
A day out for me today. Our friend (actually OHs best friend) arranged a day out for her auntie and aunties friend, both of who have 70th birthdays coming up. The friend, 2 birthday girls, friend's mum and another lady and I had a day in York. Castle Museum, with plenty of cafe stops, then an early evening meal out.
A lovely day was had by all, despite the rain! OH was playing golf today then out at the Lady Captain's dinner tonight so missed all the fun!

Good morning ladies, raining heavily this morning.

Daisy, i make individual pies and a large one(in case we have visitors).I use the foil dishes and plates, usually buy them in Poundland or Wilkos.
I have a bottom on my pies, and freexe them uncooked and take them out of the freezer the night before, and leave them in the fridge. I also don't like too much gravy in them, prefer to put the
gravy on, with my dinner, but that is my preference.
Also like to keep some chicken pies and mince and onion in the freezer as well.
Hope the back eases up soon Daisy.
Gem, what a lovely day you had yesterday.

Wishing you all a good morning on this wet and soggy day. Apparently we've had between 15 and 30 mm overnight, and we needed very drop, but my poor, beautiful Annabelle has suffered. Her gorgeous flowers are all dashed down by the rain, and soppy me has just got soaked (still in dressing gown!) going out and gently shaking the water off the flowers. Annabelle is a hydrangea, by the way!!

Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' plants from Thompson & Morgan - experts in the garden since 1855

Nanto - many thanks for the pie advice. I like to add gravy later as well. I think I'll have a go today, as I need to freeze or use the mince. I'll let you know how I get on, and I'll have to find something to cook them in - no foil containers but I'm sure I'll find something freezer and oven proof.

Gem, some days just turn out really well, don't they! I hope OH enjoyed her golf and dinner as well.

Oma - I hope you're doing something nice for your birthday, despite the rain.

If it stays wet (and that's what the forecast says) I'm going to sort out all the loose recipes I've got lying around and file them into a ring binder. I got a nice bright coloured binder a few weeks ago and it's high time I filled it up! I'm thinking of getting rid of most of my cookery books - most of them are only used for one to two recipes and they take up the whole of a little bookcase in the hall. Many years ago one of our naughtier puppies chewed all the spines off them, so they look really tatty and they just sit there gathering cobwebs and dust.

                What a horrible wet day

OH and I never oversleep, but today I awoke at 9.15. I had to be at a meeting at 9.30!! Fortunately it is in my village , about 5 minutes walk from home. As I didn't have 5 minutes I drove there. Out of bed, quick wash, teeth, deodorant etc (no time for shower!) brush hair, take painkillers with water and a digestive biscuit. I arrived at the meeting only 3 minutes late!!

I had trouble getting to sleep last night, and I have a sore throat which kept waking me, so that is presumably why I slept so late!
Apart from a Tesco order arriving nothing much going on the rest of today. We are going to the theatre tonight.

Try to rest your poor back Daisy.

Enjoy your day and meal tonight Oma

We are seeing Gypsy, Oma, which I wanted to see in the West End, but it closed before I got around to booking! I did see a BBC screening of that production, starring Imelda Staunton though.
This is an unknown cast and company, plus it is the first night (cheaper tickets) so I go with an open mind!

Nanto - I've very proud of myself! I made a mince and vegetable pie! I used a deep enamel dish but didn't make quite enough pastry for a top and a bottom, so dug out a pie funnel (goodness knows how or when I acquired one of those!) and just made a pastry top. At least I didn't have a soggy bottom. I also wasn't sure how long to cook it for - but 30-35 minutes on Gas 6 seemed to do the trick ok. OH polished off every last scrap and said he'd really enjoyed it. He very rarely comments on a meal, so I think I might have to make another one at some time. It's been a wet miserable day, so a meat pie was quite comforting!!!

Apart from that and quick trips to save Annabelle from the downpour I've done very little. I dug out a hole punch ready to start filing recipes, but it wasn't working properly so OH sorted it out and I can start tomorrow.

Oma - I'm glad you've had such a lovely day, despite the weather.

Gem - you did very well to get to your meeting so quickly. I have a very busy friend who has perfected the art of getting ready, including shower and hair washing, all-over body moisturiser and dressingin 8 minutes, but you did well waking up to arriving at your meeting in less than 20 mins. I hope your sore throat doesn't develop into anything. How was the play? I've never been to a first night - but always think it must be rather exciting.

                            Good morning Nanto and everyone.

It's not actually raining here at the moment, but I think it will!! It seems impossible that last week we were moaning about this phenomenon -

I've got another free day today, and as my back is feeling a bit better I've got choices! Housework, filing all those recipes, cleaning windows, pottering in the greenhouse, doing some pyrography (neglected while the workmen were here), painting, online shopping, sorting out some photos, tidying out the airing cupboard, and walking Eva. I obviously can't do all those things - some might have to wait for another day, another year ....

The internet is grindlingly slow this morning, so the online shopping will have to wait till later!!

Second night of rain but so far nothing in the day thank goodness. DD and SIL are in Ibeza until next Thurs. so I am here with my two GD's.

Aquarobics for me this morning and opticians this afternoon and perhaps a bit of tennis watching.

                              Have a good day everyone

Pottering in the greenhouse sounds good to me Daisy

                                Good morning everyone.

Daisy, no backache and a free day is good, but don't overdo it!! My throat is still sore but a lot less so thank you! I actually lay on my bed covered with a fleece yesterday afternoon listening to The Archers omnibus on i player, as I felt bit ropey, and the weather was so dismal. I think it did me good, as I felt a lot better after that.

That sounds a good day Plant. Exercise, then relaxing with the tennis!

Nan2, it is beef stew weather lately isn't it?!

Gypsy was really good, Oma. It's a musical I love (I watched the film. starring Natalie Wood, many times when I was younger) Apart from getting flippin' soaked between car park and theatre it was a good night .

I'm hoping Clover is OK, as rather quiet.

Usual Thursday shopping for mum. I wonder if she will come out with me for coffee? She hasn't for weeks now. I get a call mid morning saying she isn't coming out and giving me her shopping list. I take cake back with the shopping and we still have out tea and cake and chat, but I feel it would do her good to get out a little. I can't make her though! it is, as I write, not actually raining here!!

Have a good day everyone. I hope the rain stays away from you!
