      She was brave to intervene!

When King Henry VIII's divorce request was denied by the Pope, Henry declared himself (not the Pope) as the supreme head of the English church.

I think Donald Trump may be modelling himself on Henry 8th.

The Bank of England pound note, first introduced on 12th March 1797, ceased to be legal tender in Britain at midnight. When the deadline for returning old notes was reached, it was estimated that some 70 million were still outstanding.

A pound note was a lot of money when I was a child. Now a pound coin is small change.

Gem, riches indeed! I can't ever remember being given any paper money as a child, but I do remember my Dad coming in from the shop to show me a large white £5 note. We didn't get many of those over the counter!

Lots of childhood memories for me with all those piers, especially the two Blackpool ones. It was where we went for holidays and always stayed in a B&B near the south pier. Back in the day there were always shows in the theatres at the end of the pier which we always went to. I loved every minute of it.

Llandudno was where we often went for a day out and we'd always have a walk on the pier, plus a drive up to the top of either the Great or Little Orme. When my OH was a professional drummer he did a season at Llandudno pier, and has some interesting memories!
