The re-opening of the Tadcaster Bridge, which is believed to date from around 1700. The bridge collapsed on 29th December 2015 after flooding that followed Storm Eva. The loss of the bridge involved a 16 mile detour and loss of businesses in the town.

This was a major pain for the people of Tadcaster. My sister fortunately for us lives before the bridge, so we were saved the long round trip when we visited.

Gem, lucky your sister was the "right" side of the bridge. These long detours can take ages and always seem to be very busy with all the diverted traffic.

          2013

A skeleton found beneath a Leicester car park in August 2012 was confirmed as that of English king Richard III.
He was reintered at Leicester Cathedral on 26th March 2015 after experts from the University of Leicester said that DNA from the bones matched that of descendants of the monarch's family.

It always amazes me that the experts can tell so much from old bones.

I remember this! When they were on ration shops had to collect and count coupons used when buying sweets (or any rationed items). One of my jobs was to separate the Ds and Es coupons and count them ready for my dad to do the return to the Ministry of Food. (There were different lettered coupons for 2 ounce and 4 ounce purchases.)

Did she actually conceive? I don't remember ever hearing if it was a good outcome for her.

                          1855

The 'Devil's Footprints' mysteriously appeared in southern Devon when trails of hoof-like marks appeared overnight in the snow. Estimates of the total distance covered by the prints ranged from 40 to 100 miles. Houses, rivers, haystacks and other obstacles were allegedly travelled straight over, and the footprints appeared on the tops of snow-covered roofs and high walls, as well as leading up to and exiting various drain pipes with a diameter as small as 4 inches.
