This is what they build each year on the beach at Scheveningen, I read they have to light it earlier this evening as heavy winds are forecast.

It was -2 when I went out and 1 when I came back. The roads were not icy though.
Good class, coffee with my friends then to Asda for petrol. I will be staying put now!
After lunch I will make the mulled wine and whip round with a duster. OH has made the sweet and sour and very nice it looks.

DD & SIL came for lunch, they are going down Leeds tomorrow to give the flat a clean and staying overnight so we having the dog.

My shoulder is killing me now so I have taken pain killers and I'm doing nothing else today,
Windows need cleaning but that's a job for tomorrow I think.

            Oma, rest that shoulder!

You would be very welcome to join us! We have been 13 at our highest number, and often 10, so plenty of room for two more tonight

Good New Year's Evening evening, everyone.

Lizzie, I do hope your surgery will allow you to have that vascular examination. Anything to ease that awful pain. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Thank goodness you didn't risk the freezing weather and the ice. Are so many people travelling to Germany for New Year's Eve firework displays and celebrations? The roads must be a nightmare. I hope they are all gritted against the weather.

Nanto, enjoy a relaxing New Year's Evening in the warmth.

Gem, I was thinking about your NY Eve get together this morning. OH's sweet and sour chicken sounds delicious, and as you say, 6 is a very manageable number. You must be pleased with your new card game. I haven't heard of it - is it played with ordinary playing cards or is it a special pack? I hope the pool was nice and warm on such a cold day.

Oma, you really must rest your shoulder. Please take care of yourself, or I'll have to send Eva up there to sit on you (she calls it giving you a cuddle!). Or she'll have to recruit Storm - and he probably weighs a lot more than her! Seriously, all that wrapping up must have strained it. Hopefully after the week-end IKEA will be relatively quiet, and it will give B something to look forward to (not!). xx

We woke up to frost and fog this morning. It's very cold. I broke up the ice on the pond, but was surprised it wasn't thicker, but it seems to be quite a sheltered spot. I'm loving having the pond to look after and hoping we might get some interesting creatures in it this year. The morning ended up being busy with phone calls and our window cleaner coming to mend a broken gutter for us. He cleaned the windows yesterday and OH asked if he could replace the gutter for us. He turned up unexpectedly first thing this morning and wouldn't even take payment for doing the job. He's such a nice man.

We went to friends for New Year's Eve lunch - a big change from our usual rather rowdy evening parties. We've been meeting up with these friends for over 40 years, and numbers always varied - as many as 27 and now there are just 5 of us and we decided on lunch rather than late night revelry. I was a bit sad about that at first, but actually, it's been a lovely day. W had made a delicious 3 course lunch, and we have had a lovely time. I'm quite tired now though, so might not stay up to see the New Year in.

Wishing everyone a happy, peaceful and healthy 2026.

I think as you and OH are still recuperating a lunch time NYE get together was an excellent idea.

I will write about that card game tomorrow.

All ready here for our friends due at 7. DD1 came for a cuppa and Christmas cake this afternoon. It was lovely to see her.

Thank you Daisy, I hope they can find out what it causing the pain as well. It would be nice to have the lunch with friends.

No, they travel to Germany for the fireworks! The celebrations are here!!! They do often get caught, luckily!!

I have just read that there is a warning out again for black ice this evening. There were so many falls and accidents this morning.

                      Good morning.

We didn't stay up for new year.
There were some noisy fireworks. They woke us up and there was a lot of them.
I didn't think we would get back to sleep, but fortunately we did.

                      Sainsbury's delivery coming between 9 and 10.

Have a lovely day whatever you are doing.

                        Happy New year ladies,

                        Nanto
I didn't wait up either, I was so tired and I was in bed by 10.30,
B said lots of fireworks but I slept through it all, didn't hear a thing.

I'm about to clean my windows

Then Storm is coming to stay the day & night ,
DD & SIL going down to Leeds to clean GSs flat ready for them going back to uni and to check if anything needs replacing,
                        They are staying overnight

Have a peaceful start to 2026 everyone

A few deaths and hands lost, a church burned down in Amsterdam etc etc. How they are going to control it all next year, I have no idea. €130 million spent, that is only the legal fireworks, maybe double that. We got an emergency alarm on our phones at 12-30 telling us not to phone ambulance, police etc unless it was a case of life and death!! That says enough.

This the church that got burned down!!

Good morning and Happy 2026 everyone.

                            Lizzie, that all sounds horrendous

I hope Storm enjoys his sleepover Oma

We hear some loud bangs during the evening so made sure the cats were locked in. All quiet when our friends left at 2, so it didn't bother us personally.
The London fireworks looked amazing on TV.

DD3 wants to get together today, not sure if they are coming here or we going over there.
A bit of of post party clearing up to do this morning!

Good New Year's Day morning, everyone.

Lizzie, I'm horrified by the carnage caused by fireworks - I hope your police can enforce the ban on private displays next year.

Gem, glad you had a good evening, and I'm sure P and M slept through the noise.

Oma, you must have needed that good sleep. Don't overdo it today. Storm won't mind whether your windows are clean or not!

Nanto, it sounds as though the NY Eve parties were all around you this year. I bet there are a few people with hangovers.

We had a lazy evening, mainly watching tv, but by 11.30 I was too tired to stay up. I was still reading when OH came to bed though about 12.30.

It's a beautifully sunny day today, although I'm not keen in this dry, bright but cold weather. Eva loves it though and she's been playing tug like a puppy this morning. We'll take her over to DS2's later. No other plans for today.
