Aww, Zizi - they're lovely children (but you knew that, didn't you!)
Christmas Eve: GD1 and her dad were putting out a drink and snack for Santa & Co. They don't have a chimney, so Dad suggested they put the snacks on the front porch, adding, helpfully, "So when we get up tomorrow morning we'll be able to see if Santa has been or not."
GD1: "Or we could just look under the tree to see if there are any presents. So that's two ways we can check."

Clever GD Daisy
Yesterday DD1, SIL and GS, 3 went our for their Christmas Day walk. GS was reluctant, unsurprisingly especially as it was raining..
'We will go for a nice little walk then you can come back to play with your presents all afternoon' persuaded DD.
Apparently GS's reply was 'No!!!!! That is Christmas Day RUINED!''

Yesterday we took GD, 6 to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the theatre. She's an experienced theatre goer for her age, as we have taken her to plays since she was 2, and she goes to drama class too.
She has always liked to discuss plot afterwards, even when she was a tiny tot!
Yesterday was no different. The discussion was mainly about the children living in the sewers. 'What a horrible place to live. Just think if you had to live down there Grandma and never see your family!' which I agreed with. 'But why did they have to live there?' '. Because it was against the law to have children in Vulgaria and the Baroness hated them. 'But why did she hate children? Why? she was a child once, she must have hated herself then!' and so it went....
Then questions as to why the sewers (again LOL) why not another part of the country, surely the baron and baroness couldn't see the whole country? ' I pointed out that no, but they were powerful so could send others out to check homes everywhere.. She was in no way scared, just indignant on behalf of these children.
I pointed out that the toymaker did his best by hiding these children in a place no one would look and that in the end they were reunited with their families and the No Children law was abolished.
Not a child to simply watch anything and forget it, my granddaughter!

Zizi - Ben really is an amazing little chap - no wonder you're so proud of him. xx
Gem - Perhaps GD is going to be a theatre critic when she grows up - she's certainly got the hang of analysing a storyline at a very early age!

Yesterday after 'one of those days' GD1 and I ended up minding DS2's shop for a while. I'd picked GD1 up from school and she was still in 'work' mode. She asked me for some sums to do - addition and subtractions, and sat happily at the shop counter working at them. One customer admired her first neatly completed page which I'd marked for her, and asked her how old she was. Five, she replied, and the customer was very sweet and said what a clever girl she was. She asked if GD could write her name. Yes, she replied and I can draw you a picture as well. So while I served the customer GD drew a picture of her, signed it and handed it over! The customer's face was a picture in itself! But she tactfully admired it and carefully put it into her bag. Some people are so kind, and it made GD's day!
