Maddie the 2 year old Golden Retriever loves the men who empty her family's bins. The east Belfast binmen make a fuss of her every time they roll into her street and she loves it! Her human family all adore her and son, Josh, created an Instagram account for her. Her videos reach ten million views and she as 20,000 followers.
I have watched some of her Instagram's over the weeks ,
I love that she takes a toy to greet them with .
She definitely thinks everyone is there to see her 😂
Oma, I noticed her taking a toy. Cooper has a 'greeting toy' which is kept just for visitors (so he doesn't try and greet them with an antler in his mouth!) and Missy, next door, both greets with a toy and steals one to take home when she visits!

What an inspiration this lady is. Nearly 101 years old, Glenys Cour is passionate about colour and painting, even though she has never used a brush. She lives in the Mumbles, overlooking Swansea Bay and I suspect quite near to Clover. She has seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, but when she goes into her art studio she says she forgets everything and is immersed in her work. I don't think she's planning for retirement, bless her.
Think of this little community when you're putting your turkey into your oven, switching on your festive lights, watching the King's Speech and Gavin & Stacey and perhaps even charging your electric car this Christmas to say nothing of posting on GRU (yes, we don't close for Christmas!) or Whats App-ing family and friends.
They have no electricity, broadband, mobile phone signal, mains water/sewerage or gas!
After a 50-year campaign, families are celebrating their last Christmas relying on generators.
Having spent 8 years waiting for fibre broadband I have only a small indication of how it must be for them - hugely frustrating that things move so slowly.

Have you ever seen an Iberian Lynx in the wild? I'm almost certain your answer would be "no", because they came within a hair's breadth of extinction. At one time there were only two totally separate populations in Spain and Portugal, with only 25 breeding females between them. A 'just in time' conservation programme was started in the Algarve with a view to getting them ready for release into the wild.
It's a success story that isn't without its cliff-hanger moments.
I think this post might just be of no interest to anyone except me! Having spent many years teaching on Business Studies courses at college, I used to follow business stories and incorporate them into lessons when possible. It was always interesting to compare two businesses and look at how they took decisions.
We all know many business are struggling and looking to make cost savings and/or increase footfall. Waitrose and Sainsburys have two very different approaches.
Yesterday I noticed in the news that Waitrose have decided to start offering free hot drinks again to non-shopping customers who are members of their loyalty scheme. Today I read that Sainsburys are looking to make £1 bn of cost savings, and have decided to close down all its remaining cafes, as well as its pizza and patisserie counters. (They are also planning to reduce senior management roles and will cut up to 3,000 jobs.)
All Our Sainsbury's cafes have been closed for more than two years
We haven't had pizza , patisserie counters, butchers , fish mongers, cooked meat counter since the pandemic.
They have very little floor staff it's getting harder and harder to find help if you need it.
