One of the traditional sights on many beaches is a row of brightly decorated beach huts. Little homes from homes (even if they have no mod cons) where families can relax and play. Our south coast resorts have many such huts, and they've become so desirable in places that they can change hands for over half a million pounds!
One of the most expensive areas is called Mudeford Spit (not the most glamorous of names), where the huts are handed down from generation to generation, and rarely come on to the market. The local council however, is short of money in a big way and has decreed that the little huts will be charged full Council Tax, treating them as a second home. They will be treated as Band A properties, increasing the Council bills from about £600 pa to £1,230 pa and resulting in total annual fees of over £5,000. As you ca imagine, the hut owners aren't at all happy, then to add insult to injury one of the Councillors said it's a small amount but basically they are desperate!

We often comment in our Chat thread about boring, routine domestic jobs - you know the sort of thing, folding the clean washing, dusting and hoovering, loading the dishwasher (although I know not everyone has one). It seems AI might be able to help us with these repetitive tasks.
Welcome your friendly, well-trained assistant - a domestic robot. We can't quite hang up our dish cloths yet, the robots are still learning, and need our loving support, but the future is on the horizon.
On the other hand, could we end up being ruled by our robotic servants if they get too clever?

Sometimes people try hard, very hard, but it all goes wrong! The staff at the Helston (Cornwall) branch of Tesco must be feeling like that. They decided the branch should promote bilingualism and put all the signs in dual languages. Unfortunately, the non-English signs were actually in Welsh rather than Cornish. I'm sure there were red faces when they realised their mistake.

The weather has a lot to answer for, not just in this country, but elsewhere as well.
The rock formation, known as Lovers' Arch, in the Puglia area of Italy has collapsed due to storms and high winds. With an ironic sense of timing the collapse happened on Valentine's Day!
It was a popular tourist attraction and has seen many marriage proposals over the years, but it is no more. The local Mayor described it as an unwanted Valentine's Day gift. Fortunately it seems nobody was there being romantic at the time of the collapse. It looks quite similar to a popular local beauty spot on the Jurrassic coast in Dorset. Hopefully that won't meet the same sorry end.
