That's a good idea Plant. Several members don't use FB. Glamma and Qwerty come to mind, and I'm sure there are others, who miss out on posts on FB generally and on the Granny Support Group, which was only meant as stopgap until we got this forum running!

Good morning all.
We have just come in from a walk and the heavens have just opened. The wind is howling around the flat, two of my pots have been blown over
How is everyone this morning.
I had a lovely surprise this morning when I opened up my emails, thank you admin , it was lovely, you are all very thoughtful
Zizi I hope you are ok when you go on holiday, as you say, you don't want a nose bleed mid flight.
My dad lost a lot of his sight to glaucoma and what was left of it was robbed by macular degeneration. Although not a lot could have been done about the latter , the glaucoma would have been picked up much earlier if he had gone to the opticians when he first started struggling with his eye sight.
From the age of 40 yearly eyes tests are free to next of kin with glaucoma . I have been having free tests now for 23 years and so far so good. .
I saw Js post on Facebook, the pictures are lovely.
Oma you do the sort of shopping I do, go with full intentions of buying something nice and either come home empty handed or buy stupid black bin liners !
As it looks like its going to be a nasty day outside I might try and sort out some Christmas shopping on line.
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

Good plan mimi
It is raining now here, fairly heavily. I don't imagine it is much fun for OH on the golf course!
I have to go to collect GS and walk him home soon. Forunately he lives close to school. I will take my raincoat!“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown

Mimi my husband has been with the same optician since he was 15 when he first started wearing glasses and had never had a puff test. 18 years ago (he is now 66) he came with me to my optician as there was a two for one eye test and was sent straight to hospital. The optician had just got a swanky new field vision machine and thought it was broken as the results ŵere so bad. I tried to get the optician who had let his eyes get so bad struck off but the old boys club kicked in and he was merely castigated for not keeping accurate records. We in the meantime lost our business, nearly lost our house (we were forced to sell it and move into a much smaller property) and had so much stress with various operations in order to keep what little sight remained. I have never forgiven him.
Husband has recently, and very reluctantly, agreed to be classified as partially sighted. Doctors at the hospital are amazed that he still holds down a full time job with so little sight. Truth is that he doesn’t tell people unless it is absolutely necessary. If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together

Thank you for my e-card, it was very jolly
I have not been out today, very miserable weather, so I sorted out my files and now have a pile of papers to be disposed of. I set fire to the last lot of private papers in the garden, I do have a shredder but it is quite small and takes an age to shred my paperwork. what do you ladies do about private type of papers? What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare

He had been having three or four new prescriptions a year and his eyes were always very red rimmed and the whites were always red. Yes if he had been given the puff test his sight would not have deteriorated to the extent where it got to. There was no need for it to reach such a stage and we had that admission from an optician who refused to put it in writing. I fought for a couple of years to get what I considered to be justice as all I could think of was the other peop,e walking around with defective eye sight and not knowing but in the end with the closing of the business and nearly losing the house I had to concentrate on other things. What galls me was that in the years after that when we were struggling with the health problems the condition bought and the financial problems the optician, who lived not far from us and kept his house, sold his business and made himself quite well off including a holiday home abroad.Originally posted by Plantaholic View PostThat was a very negligent optician Zizi, is there anything they could have done if the onset of Glaucoma had been found earlier Zizi
Ah well, all things change and it doesn’t help to dwell too much on the past.
