Well time to shine went well however there were far fewer children than usual. I cannot understand why people would say they are coming to a FREE event so we cater for them all and then only half of them turn up. On the plus side it meant the teams were smaller and so it was easier for all of the children to have fun and there was no waiting on the sidelines to be able to take part in wheelchair basketball etc. It looks like yesterday was the last event. There is no funding yet for the residential next year or for the one day one next summer. Sad, but I have had a lot of fun Oganising all the volunteers for the last few years. I have made a lot of friends, learned a lot about people and disabilities. It has really been a huge source of education.

After the event we rolled into the pub for a couple of hours - sixteen of us, then Lou, who I worked with from the beginning when we were both working on the Olympic Park, husband, Jolyon who took over from my friend and colleague Katie covering her maternity leave and Michelle, my neighbour who was a volunteer, trotted off for an Italian where we imbibed even more and had a really nice meal although I don't generally like Jamie's. Possibly I was too squiffy to care!!!

I have posted a few pictures but there are a couple on FB which are from our dinner which are better and show how close we have all become. I am very sad that it is all over but it was time to step down. Was going to fizz tonight but decided to leave it until tomorrow as too tired to really enjoy it.

Up up to Kings Cross tomorrow for National Citizenship Service visit by 11 students. All organised. Timetable, certificates, audience, goody bags waiting to be packed to go up on the tube at around 11am. During the week I have a couple of telephone and Skype conferences and the rest of the time will be section 106 bid writing and doing various admin for the following week.

Lucky dinner tonight, that is lucky if we find something in the fridge we want to eat.........

Sounds like everyone had a busy day yesterday.
Avo, hope the flying lesson went well. My hubby used to have a pilots licence for flying microlites.
ZIZI, you have done more than your fair share of T2S. As Oma says, end of an era.
Enfys, good news from the dermatologist.

I think it's a good weather forecast for this week, enjoy ladies.

Zizi you should congratulate yourself for all the hard work and dedication you have shown, as Oma has said, an end of a era .
Enfys that's good news about from dermatologist , and your week away in September sounds really nice..We have spent time in Bath, we loved it .

Goodnews here , eldest DS has found himself a flat at last. It's been a hard 4 months with having to rearrange the furniture and put up the sofa bed twice a day . And all that extra washing and food bill was beginning to put a strain on us. As much as I love my DS we have got to the stage in life where we want a quiet life,it was like stepping back in time , with lights, tv and music on till all hours.
Just hope he settles into his new place. He has moved to the street where myself and OH grew up, where we spent the first year of our married life .DS was just two weeks old when we moved from there . He will be living just a few doors down from where we all lived . It's funny how things turn out !

            Good morning all.

Zizi, you have certainly worked hard, and I'm sure you will miss it in a way.
Enfys, glad you enjoyed your break, good news re the dermatologist!
Wonderful news about your sons flat mimi. It may be a good omen, him living on that street
Daisy, I hope the boys don't tire you out!
Clover, you need a rest after all that!

I am collecting GS1 from nursery at lunch time, then having him for the rest of the day. He finds it very exciting when I pick him up from nursery, because usually DD brings him here.

Well we did have a great day at Duxford - all the family turned up in the end which was great. DH enjoyed the experience, but hasn't got the 'flying bug', so I don't think he will be booking any more! He did manage to retain his lunch - which was a bonus !! We were very lucky they were flying 'Sally B' ( a flying fortress) yesterday and this was an unexpected bonus. I had booked this trial lesson as his birthday present (surprise) and it was a great success, even though he won't continue with it.

Morning ladies , woke at 4 am feeling very very sick no idea why this went on till about 9 am then eased . Been for fresh bread and Birthday cards I needed then hospital rang to say Brian needed antibiotics as the swab around his line showed a infection , he has to pick a prescription up from the unit but I just couldn't go with him I feel a bit wobbly now so he's popped down himself , I may have a nap later see if that helps

Oma ,don't going doing too much today. Your GransRus friends prescribe rest and plenty of it !

I have just just recived a letter from the jury service, I have been summoned to do jury service in October. This is the second time I have been summoned but the first time I was granted a pardon as I was mums main career at the time and it was unsafe to leave her alone all day .
I'm looking forward to it as long as I don't get to sit through any gruesome cases !

Oma, good to know you are resting. Wish you were close enough for a reflexology treatment

Mimi, my mum has always wanted to do jury service. As she is almost 88, it won't happen now!

GS and I are having a drink and watching a DVD. We have been playing in my car, one of his favourite games. It got far too hot though, so I persuaded him to come in. After a morning at nursery, a bit of down time is good.

Mimi - I was called for jury service for the second time a couple of years ago, but I got let off since I was the main carer for GD1 at the time. I think they've now extended the age limit to 75 so I suppose I could still get called again! I hope you don't get anything to gruesome.

Day one of Grandsons' week with us. They are pretty fed up with our 20th Century technology, so I hope it will encourage them to do other things. OH has just fetched GS1 out of the conker tree outside our house! He loves climbing trees. We were hoping they'd be able to go into the village on their own, but I walked in with GS1 this morning and the holiday traffic (cars driven by people whose mind is not really on the road ahead) has made me very nervous of letting them go on their own - they're 11 and just 13, but GS1 doesn't look where he's going. He nearly walked into the flower display outside the florist because he couldn't take his eyes off his phone! And I think he'd go and take up residence in Tescos because he can get 4G reception there!! I don't think Tescos would appreciate it at all.

Strange perhaps but I really enjoyed Jury duty. The first time there was quite a lot of waiting but I did get on one trial. The second time I was the first one called from the holding room and also the first name called in the actual court! I sat on two cases. Luckily none of them were gruelling but interesting.I would really like to serve again. I felt some of the youngsters on the juries tended to jump in straight away with their decisions and it was up to us older ones to get them to consider all the evidence

I was called for jury service a few years ago and there was a lot of waiting about. We were called into one case but something happened and it was thrown out before it even started. After sitting around for days the judge took pity on us and called us to sit in on a case. It didn't require any jurors, I can't remember what it was about exactly, but the accused pleaded guilty and it was an open and shut case. Very interesting though, just to see what went on in a court room.
