Daisy, it will be nice for your GS to have family around on his birthday, his celebration can happen later!

I went to my friends this morning, the one that moved to the penthouse a few years ago, they are both my age, very active, both keen rowers, walkers, cyclists, etc. One of the sons lives in Norway and they have a holiday home there, they go a few times a year , in the winter ski-ing etc. They have just returned from there actually, she had something to tell me, she has to have an open heart operation! I was shocked! She has had a pain a few years but had a bad accident whilst ski-ing in 1996 and thought the pain was from that, she has been to specialists, just lately the pain has been worse so she went to her cardiologist, he said to get a second opinion, 5 cardiologist's later and lots of examinations, scans etc they have seen what the problem is, like a bomb waiting to explode, they phoned her the same evening to tell her what it was. They told her not to go to Norway, she told them if she didn't go she would get the heart attack anyway, that is what she is like, they told her to go, but, no mountain climbing etc etc. She is now waiting to see how long it will be before the operation, the last cardiologist she spoke to told her that everyone thinks that all hearts are the same but there is definitely a difference in a male and female heart and that is why they didn't see what the problem was with the other tests etc. In fact she isn't too surprised as she is one of 9 children and they all have heart problems.

Lizzie, what a shock for your friend, who sounds very fit and active. It's interesting what the specialist said about male and female hearts being different. I remember reading that when women have heart attacks they are usually nothing like a man's and are often misdiagnosed. The other awful thing is most medical training is on men, using male anatomy (apart from the very obvious part) so doctors don't get the same understanding of the female body and its illnesses. I do hope your friend is ok.

Gem, GS1 must be very proud of himself and how sweet that he enjoyed watching people looking through the books. I wonder if his secondary school has opportunities for student involvement in running its library? Just a thought - a place where he might feel at home and comfortable.

Nanto, the weather perked up a bit here as well, and I did get all the washing dried.

I was pleased that GS1 did so well at the library especially after recent weeks of school avoidance etc.
Daisy, you have a good point there, about the school library. Oma, I will take him at least once more during holidays.
He sometimes helps his mum at a soup kitchen type thing and always works hard there and gets into it. He never really wants to do anything, but often enjoys it when he does!

Good evening. A nasty shock for your friend Lizzie, hope it all goes well for,her. I had heard that about womens heart attacks, Daisy. We must all be vigilant.

My gardener came today so everything looking neat and tidy. I really couldn’t manage without her now, I just do pottering and she does the heavy stuff. We always have a nice chat too.

nothing much planned for this week which is fine as I’ve had a busy couple of weeks.

It's our normal Wednesday today - dog training this afternoon and I need to get on with the ironing and making guest bed up this morning. I'll drop in again later.

Aquafit this morning. We have to take my car to the garage first to have that leak repaired. OH will drop me at the leisure centre and one of my friends will drop me home later. OH is now playing golf so can't come back for me.
Nail appointment at 1. This is to replace the gel which came off in the sea and fill in the regrowth on the rest. Luckily it is near enough to walk as my 'chauffeur' will be AWOL

Late in this morning, just got busy. Cloudy but warm today, I have a little job to do in the garden then Board Games this afternoon. Getting clothes ready for our holiday on Monday.

Gemini, your GS was kept busy in the Library and enjoyed being helpful, well done to him. I have given up on nails, just try to keep them tidy. I am naughty for not wearing gardening gloves, I like to feel the soil.

Oma, so pleased you are enjoying your holiday and a rest. Apart from a bruise on my knee and a wound on my shin I am fine thank you.

Daisy you have to have some sort of celebration for your GS’s birthday. Has the date been fixed for the funeral?

Nanto, 5am! I was still away with the fairies. Dinner sounds good, I am enjoying new potatoes.

Lizzie, worrying time for your friend, I hope she can get an op. Soon.

No coffee after aquafit today as the friend giving me a lift home had to get back as she had friends coming to lunch.

Plant, it is only my toe nails which I have gelled. I have them done twice a year and it lasts me over the summer. Today is just a patch up job

It turned quite cool about 5 ish.

Anyway, we got the gardening done this morning,and hubby started painting the gates.

Nanto, painting gates sounds like one of those jobs that isn't huge, but takes ages because there are so many surfaces to cover. I'm sure that delicious dinner set your OH up for the task, though.

Enfys, that sounds like the ideal solution for your garden - someone to do the heavy jobs and you can enjoy the tasks you like doing, and you get to have a nice chat as well.

Gem, was your car fixed today or did they need it for longer? We get so dependent on them, don't we, but at least you could walk to your nail appointment. How is your knee now after a week of regular swimming on holiday?

Yes, Eva enjoys training (I think she's training me!) and can't wait to get in the hall. Today there were 8 dogs in (quite a lot for us) including one totally new dog to the class. It got a bit shouty but it didn't bother her at all and she lay down and relaxed when she wasn't working.

Plant, how were the Board Games this afternoon? GS1 is going to have his proper birthday party with another family member in September, so this is just a little get together to mark the actual day for him.

I got none of my planned jobs done this morning with one thing and then another and another distracting me. At least it will all wait for me. I'm having my hair cut in the morning, but hope to get stuck in and catch up tomorrow.

It turned cool here about 4 o'clock and feels quite chilly now.

Daisy, my car isn't ready, I was told it may not be as it's a big job .A friend may drive OH over to pick it up tomorrow. If not it will be Friday as we have GS3 all day tomorrow and the car seat is in my car so we wouldn't be able to go over to get it with him with us .

Both knees were quite sore after daily swimming, but I think my back benefited! I am waiting for an appointment to be referred for an X ray of the other knee to see how it is. It's bearable now but I think an injection may be needed at some point.

Gem, where is your car leaking? (Sorry, you've probably said, but I must have missed it.). Apparently it can be hard to trace some leaks. The garage wanted to charge me over £2,000 to replace the sunroof on mine when I had a leak. Luckily a neighbour had a look at it and said the windscreen which had been replaced hadn't been put in properly and that was the problem. He was right, and Autoglass came and fixed it free of charge. I hope you don't get a big bill.

Glad you back benefitted from the swimming. Your new knee has probably got stronger as well. I hope you can have an injection for the other one.
