Today Eva had her first massage! Spoilt or what.

The plan is that I shall learn to massage her so that we can help with her anxiety around fireworks and any time she is struggling with things. I also hope it will help her to be calmer if/when she needs to go to the vets. It was very interesting to watch, and the expert explained what she was doing and why - and also what she was leaving out of the routine when Eva was starting to get a bit anxious. She was much more relaxed and willing when H was working on her left side than her right and H found several 'knots' in her right shoulder and some in her back leg around the elbow.

It was very soothing to watch and afterwards I felt almost as relaxed and Eva, and definitely could have done with a sleep!

Aww. Lucky doggie. It's so helpful to find something you can do to sooth Eva. You will be an experienced doggie masseuse before long!

Daisy I know your doing the massage thing, but have you ever considered buying a thundershirt for Eva. Fortunately Shiloh doesn't bat an eyelid at fireworks, but poor Bramble went demented. It was recommended to me as like massage it works on certain pressure points
on their body. It was a revelation with Bramble and we used it in other situations, he could be reactive to certain dogs, but it worked a dream. There not cheap but worth every penny, was worth watching a video on youtube to ensure we got it on correctly. I bought one in case for Shilohbut as yet its unused. Worth a thought. It was very calming for Bramble.

Libra, many thanks for the suggestion. We do use a thunder shirt and it does help a bit but I'm trying to cover all bases. She gets quite agitated in strange situations and if there are other dogs around, so I'm hoping massage will help her to be more relaxed in general. I think everything we do is a "suck it and see" experiment. She is a bit less reactive to llife in general than we first got her so I suspect it's just going to be one baby step at a time. Still love her to bits! 😍

Oh I know the one step forward and 2 back only to we'll.Shiloh had a brilliant retrieve, but seems to have lost it, and he's a ball thief when on walks. I'm hoping his retrieve comes back and he's just having a teenager moment. He will bark at you to throw the ball, but it doesn't click in the brain he has to give it up first, daft mutt

LG - Hahaha - sometime we don't even get the one step forward! I'm sure Shiloh will work it out in the end. At least if he barks he will probably drop the ball!!! One of the things we see over and over in class is that when a dog has learned something in one situation he doesn't necessarily transfer it to another. So Shiloh might, say retrieve and return a ball in your garden, but not out on a walk. To us it's all retrieving a ball, but to a dog it's a different activity.

Ladies - join the queue at the massage table. It looks very soothing.

When our dog was a puppy we used to chase him for the ball.... mistake❣ He's 5yrs old now & I've just managed to get him to drop & leave. Who says you can't reach old dogs new tricks?

Nana - I think dogs can learn new things even in advanced old age. Our son's dog who is 14, get two milk biscuits mid-morning, mid-afternoon and before bed time. A few weeks ago the other gran (not a dob owner) gave him an extra two at 9.30 am. He now pesters for those extra 2 biscuits - even though she only did it once.

I'm not sure what Eva's trying to say but she's nosing the keyboard and trying to climb on my lap - all 25 kg of her! Ouch!

One of my friends, not a dog owner was telling me about her sisters dog. Friend buys bourbon biscuits for this dog, and gives it 2 when they visit. One day she had left them in the kitchen when making coffee for the humans, and forgotten the dogs treat. After a while the dog appeared very gently holding the biscuits, and dropped them in front of her! My friend said he hadn't eaten them, but wanted her to give them to him
