We didn't take Eva to training class yesterday, because we were out, but today OH was going round to see someone about some woodturning equipment. He kindly invited me and Eva round to meet his 4 year old Cocker - very friendly and likes to play. As soonas we got Eva out of the car, the other dog started barking furiously at her! Her owners were really surprised, but Eva does seem to have that effect on some dogs. But, rather than trying to approach the dog and play Eva turned her head away, and as the dog continued to bark she turned away from it completely. Yay!!! She was on the lead, but that was great progress. I took her off for a walk round their woodland and she didn't bother with the other dog at all, although i didn't risk letting her loose. So, we are making progress!

I'm really pleased, especially as of yesterday, there is another dog in the family!! Our DS1 and family have adopted a one year old Border Collie called Bailey.

Gem, she is progressing. It's very slow, but no-one ever said it would be easy. As long as she gets there in the end so she can have long, long walks in the Forest. We're so lucky to live in such a magical place and it would be a pity if Eva couldn't enjoy it to the full.

Today was crunch time! Eva and Bailey having their first meeting.

World summits are organised with less attention to detail, but Bailey has only been with DS1 and family since Wednesday, so they don't really know him yet, and of course Eva comes over all silly when there's another dog around.

We arranged that the family would come in, say hello to Eva, then we'd put her in the garden, bring Bailey in, meet us and then meet Eva in the garden. He's a lovely boy, only 13 months old but with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Anyway, he sniffed politely round our house and then we let him out, all holding our breath!! They were fine. All the usual doggy 'hello' signals were friendly and reciprocated between the two of them. Bailey worked his way round the garden marking his territory, which Eva, being a girl, doesn't care about anyway. Then we took them to our friend's paddock. DS & Co took Bailey in first and tried calling him. He was brilliant! He responded every time. Then we went in with Eva, who by then was quite excited. She ran round barking a bit, but when all the humans settled down into walking round together she settled down. Her recall went to pot, but we were pleased that she and Bailey got on so well.

It was great that neither of them squabbled over toys or treats and even tried to share the water bowl together, but there wasn't quite enough room. So very relieved it went well, and pleased DS1 and family have chosen such a fantastic doggy.

So pleased the meeting went well, Bailey sounds a delight. We had a border many years ago they are lovely. Eva is making progress which is good.

LG - I must admit I was a bit worried when they chose a Border. It's the first dog DIL has ever had and as you know they do need plenty of activity or their clever brains can resort to mischief. But we've had them before so DS has experience. Bailey is quite small, and a bit underweight at the moment, but he's lovely natured and he's already learnt his new name (they changed it from Shep). He's very food driven which helps with training and he knows basics like Come, Sit, Down etc, and he walks nicely on a lead. Eva - take note!!!

We'll be more than happy to have him when they go away.
