I hope future generations continue to remember and honour all those who have suffered the consequences of war.

The first flight from England to Australia started at Hounslow, with Ross and Smith in a Vickers Vimy. They landed safely on 13th December 1919.

I guess it must have had a few stops!

It must have been an epic journey. Apart from anything else I bet it was hard to get refuelling stops at regular distances, to say nothing of all the weather variations. But very exciting.

Coronation Street become the first prime time television show in the UK to feature product placement, when a Nationwide Building Society cash machine was shown in the episode, after ITV signed a deal with the company.
The law was changed in February after commercial broadcasters, hit by falling advertising revenues, lobbied the Government.

Gemm - sometimes I find 'spot the product placements' more interesting than a programme. Sad, eh!

Duty free shops used to be a great attraction, didn't they!

                          1987

The worst fire in the history of the London Underground killed 30 people. The blaze began in the machinery below a wooden escalator in King’s Cross Underground station and soon filled the tunnels with dense, choking smoke and intense heat.

This still sends a chill down my spine. My ex OH should have been down there at that time, catching the train back from London. Upset after visiting his very ill father in hospital he had decided to walk to Kings Cross to clear his head, rather than go by tube as he had every other time.

Gem - someone must have been looking after your ex-OH that day. It was horrendous, and thankfully all the wooden escalators were removed as a result. Awful that it took such a tragedy to get rid of them, though.

We were all quite shaken, especially his poor mum, worried enough about her OH, and fearing her DS was in the fire.

                              A terrible tragedy
