Was Weed in Bill and Ben the Flowerpot men? She was portrayed as a daisy-like flower coming up out of a pot and saying "Weeeeeeeeeeeed" in a squeaky voice.

Heheh - I've just found a clip - just scroll down to see it.

Aww that brought back some memories

I have no idea why I mentioned Little Weed in regard to Andy Pandy!

They were pretty much the same era, I think. I think Andy Pandy started after Bill & Ben, but they were both broadcast when you were a little girl.

Nan2, that was my favourite too. There was Rag, Tag and Bobtail too, and Tales from the Riverbank and Picture Book.

Two simultaneous 'Live Aid' concerts, one in London (Wembley Stadium) and one in Philadelphia, raised over £50 million for famine victims in Africa. Prince Charles and Princess Diana officially opened Live Aid. The 16-hour 'super concert' was globally linked by satellite to more than a billion viewers in 110 nations.

I'm not sure my ex has ever forgiven me for arranging DD2's 7th birthday party for that afternoon!

I didn't realise AA had been around that long. One of my SILs belongs and is a mentor - they do fantastic work.

I'm always slightly amused about how we've adopted metric measurements for some things, but not others.

Oma - you're not an old fuddy duddy - but you are much better at Maths than me!

I find it easier to think in terms of, say 2mm instead of some odd fraction of an inch. Grams and kilos are easy, you don't have to know things like there are 16 (?) ounces, other wise known as 'oz' in a pound. And then there's pounds and stones. But for some strange reason, I know Eva's weight in kilos, and mind in stones (too many of them!)

The only thing I totally keep to imperial is miles, and I've noticed we still say 'miles to the gallon' for cars even though petrol's sold in litres.

British rower John Fairfax arrived at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after becoming the first person to row across the Atlantic alone. He had left the Canary Islands on January 20th in a 24’ rowing boat and after 180 days and 4000 miles he had finished his journey. Three years later, with his girl friend, he rowed the 8000 miles from San Francisco to the Hayman Islands off the Queensland Coast.

Wow, that was quite an achievement. the son of a friend of ours did a solo unsupported row across the Atlantic a few years ago, and that was still a huge undertaking even with all the advantages of modern technology. And I don't think anybody has yet invented a totally comfortable rowing seat!
