Good morning, I have managed to get to the shops on the bike, had to stop a few times when I saw the ice, otherwise the cycle paths are clear. The roads are as well, only our street still has the ice.

We have just been to Aldi we were the only people in , I think the thick frost is putting people off coming out.

DD and GS coming over this morning GSs car in for MOT so DD picking him up after he’s dropped the car off and coming here.

My niece my Brothers DD phoned last night she has to have both knees replaced , she’s only 53 ,
she used to do a lot of running and power walking and it’s done a lot of damage .
Shes on the waiting list now but consultant warned her at the moment she could wait a few years,
They are going to give her injections to try help with the pain , these ones need to be done in theatre so she’s on the waiting list for them too.
Its madness isn’t it .

Good Wednesday morning, everyone. I thought it was cold here - currently 1C - but that must seem quite warm to the -4C some of you have. Take care if you really have to go out.

Oma, your poor niece, it sounds as though she could be facing years of pain, and can't even get immediate help from injections. Some years ago there was a great big push to catch up on cataract surgery and hospitals were doing what sounded like a production line to reduce the waiting list. I think they should be doing something like that for knee and hip replacements because so many people are suffering awful pain, and as Gem found, the longer she was waiting the worse things got.

I don't think Glamm still had her little dog. She hadn't mentioned him for a while. I know her DD has kittens, so I wonder if she will have Oliver as well.

Yes, Eva has a lovely cosy fleece for very cold weather. She's actually got a good thick layer of fur as well (when she's not scattering it around the house!). We've got training this afternoon, so I'll put her coat on to stop her licking her side in he car.

Plant, you've reminded me that I need to get my hair cut as well!

Lizzie, it must be pretty cold riding your bike in this weather. Do you feel the cold a lot?

Gem, will the pool be extra warm today with being so cold outside? Can you have a nice warm shower afterwards? Soup is great for this weather, isn't it.

OH has his car buddies here today. I think he's put the heater on in the garage - they certainly need it. Brrrr ....

Brrr, it's still minus 1 out there!
I don't think they increase the water temperature Daisy. It's chilly once we get in but as it's an active class we soon warm up. The changing areas always feel cold though!
No coffee today as one friend is in New York and other had a lunch date to get ready for after our class.
I usually just have a quick shower under plain water at the pool and a proper shower when I get home. There are only 2 private showers which are always taken. The rest are a row of about 8, close together with no dividers. As it is a mixed changing area obviously no one is going to have a proper shower there
I also think Glamma only had Oliver the cat now.

Oma, I had an injection in my knee in a theatre years ago, I keep telling myself it is still working!

I have been to the circuit training, one of the exercises is with a hula-hoop or the choice of another exercise, the lady in front of me did the hula-hoop today so I thought I would give it a go, it took me back 6 years and I can still do it, they all cheered

Gem, our pool is really cold, I mean cold, I get in an inch at a time, they do tell me it is better to just jump in! One of the young men from the gym goes open water swimming daily, he told me the best thing to do is cold shower then your body gets used to it, I will take his word for it.

Daisy, I can stand the cold, I have a good jacket and gloves etc. The jacket has a warm wood which I can quickly lower at the roundabouts, I have to let them notice me! I have been on the bike this morning, I waited until daylight then could see the patches of ice, it wasn't bad really, just had to stop and get off twice.

Feeling quite tidy in the hair department now. Friend came for a coffee, just gone. Board Games this afternoon, village Care is supposed to be delivering me a tea today, not sure what time it is being delivered.

Lizzie, why is your pool so cold, I wouldn’t be able to get in there. Take care on your bike in those icy conditions.

Plant, it is since the energy prices went sky high! The pool in the village here is warmer, but, you pay for that as well. There is a competition pool where we go, that is always cold as apparently it is better for the competition

Afternoon all
DS has just gone home after stopping the night.

Sadly it doesn't seem to be getting any warmer. Happy to report though that we still haven't had any snow.

Eldest GS has been chosen to play darts for PDC youth development tour which means he will travel the country playing darts next spring and at the moment he is playing darts championship in England and Wales.
Although our family are huge dart playing and watching fans I have to admit its something that I know little about bearing in mind OH used to play darts, so does DS ( GS's dad) Also younger GS is showing a talent in the sport
DIL's father and brother also play darts so obviously GS has been brought up almost from the cradle with darts I on the other hand has never played the game!

Lizzie we were talking about open water swimming this morning. I think my body would go into shut down if I get too cold . When having a shower I stand in the corner with hand out stretched waiting for the water to come up to a comfortable temperature before I venture under the shower of water

A freezing day here although I got very warm this morning walking across the park to our knit and natter in the little cafe there.

Talking of knees, I had mine injected last week, this is the third time and it really helps. My doctor is happy to do it every six months so that suits me, they are not too bad but one gets painful,if I try and walk far.

Having my gas meter replaced next week, it stopped working completely so looked like I hadn’t used any gas at all! They are going to estimate this months so I’m putting it on more than I would usually! I’ve got to have a smart meter as they don’t replace the old style meters so,am having the electric done at the same time. Didn’t really want too but I’ve no choice.

Mimi I love swimming in the sea as does OH. But we swim in warm foreign seas! I like the idea of open water/wild swimming but I'm a wimp (I recognize your stand away from the shower until it is warm enough technique )

DD goes open water swimming every week in a lake near here wearing only a swimsuit, gloves, socks and a woolly hat! She loves it, goes all year round! I prefer my water to be warmer!

Lizzie, the pool I went to in the Netherlands was always cold! was a relief to get out and under the hot shower!
