    My Sister

There were six of us in the family, 5 girls and 1 boy. Sadly there’s are only two of us left, my sister who is 93 and myself 10 years younger. My sister was always Asthmatic but reached the age of 93 a few days ago. Her breathing problems have got worse and she was admitted to hospital about 10 days ago but sent home but I hear she was taken to hospital again Tues. evening. My only contacts are her Dil and her GD, Dil just rang to say they kept her in this time, I am pleased to hear that, last time I think they should have kept her in at least overnight, they sent her home at 1pm. One of her sons died some years ago and her other son lives in Thailand and is unable to come back due to Covid. I do hope they don’t discharge her too early although she is made of tough stuff.

Plant I'm sorry to hear that your sister has been admitted to hospital again, but I agree it is best she's not discharged too soon this time.
I hope she is on the mend soon.
They are made of strong stuff those 93 year olds!
My mum, her best friend and my auntie are all either 93 already or 93 this year

Plant - I know you worry about your sister, and she is such a long way away from you, but it is comforting that they are keeping her in hospital and making sure she gets the treatment she needs. I hope she's quickly on the mend. Sending hugs. xxx

Dil phoned, she thinks they will discharge her today. The hospital say the problem is cardiac. I hope she will agree to having careers in now, apparently she is not getting dressed now and sits in her pyjamas all day. Her neighbours are amazing but they are in their 80’s. Stubborn is her middle name.

It can be difficult to get independent older people to accept carers Plant. It does sound that if your sister would though it would help her to continue to live independently.

Plant - I'm sure it will make her feel better just to be back in her own home, but at 93 I'm sure she needs a little bit of help, as well as the company of carers popping in to give a structure to her day. As you say, her neighbours can only do so much, although they do sound wonderful. xx

Still no news about my sister, I presume she is still in hospital, I will ring her Dil later if I haven’t heard anything.

I spoke to my sister on the telephone yesterday, no news of moving her and there is no chance for her to be able to go to the cottage hospital. Her Dil phoned me after her visit and said she is very frail and unable to walk and her doctor friend has been told her heart is very weak. I really can’t see her coming out of the hospital. No sign of her son coming from Thailand. Her Dil went to my sisters bungalow to check the place and found lots of parcels had been delivered, my sister buys a lot of presents and Christmas food from The Shopping Channel and it is all arriving and nobody knows how to stop it. It has made me realise I need to finalise my Power of Attorney, I set it up when my OH died, it is lodged with the solicitors but I have requested they send it to me so that my DS and DD can sign it.

I wonder if a nursing home would be the best place for your sister Plant?
