Granma2aj - I can't offer any advice, but I'm curious. I keep thinking I'll have a go at knitting - I haven't done any for well over 40 years and tended to give up before I'd finished! I'd love to be able to see something through to completion.
I think there are a few keen knitters here, though.

There are lots of online wool shops that offer lots of choices, you can buy patterns the wool and needles in all one go but if you aren't an online shopper there are lots of knitting magazines ( going back to Oma's topic ) that have lots of patterns and lists of stockiest where you can buy the wool from.
We don't have a dedicated wool shop in our town but the Wednesday market has a lovely lady that has all colours of wool and if you want a particular knit or colour she does her best to get it for you.
I was only saying the other day I should start knitting a gain ⦠think I might check out a few on line places and see what takes my fancyBring me sunshine in your smile.

When I want wool unless itās something special I go to Shaws but Iām not sure if it is nationwide shop. Our indoor market also has a stall selling wool.Sometimes you can find packets of wool in charity shops.
At the moment I am using up my stash of oddments to knit squares for a blanket. I intend to give it to GD when she hopefully goes to Uni in two years time.
.Itāll take me that long to sew it all together.
Happy knitting granma2aj

I cannot knit at all. I knitted a scarf when I was 18. It ended up twice as wide at the bottom than at the top, and with unintenional holes
I gave up after that.
I don't notice many wool shops around now. As the others say, online is maybe the best way to go.
Good luck with the knitting once you get your eye sorted out Granma2aj.āA grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.ā ā Unknown

We have a Hobbycraft store near us which has a very good selection of wool. Also 3 good wool shops so Iām spoilt for choice. But I have also bought online from Wool Warehouse especially for my blankets. I have just finished a crochet cowl ready for the winter and am now making a lacy crochet scarf although I may decide to join it up and make a double length cowl. Knitting and crochet are really popular now, there are some very good sites online for patterns, tutorials etc."Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." - Dr Seuss
