Gem, I had a Muffin string puppet which was my all-time favourite toy!

      1936

The GPO (General Post Office) introduced TIM - the automated speaking clock using the voice of Miss Ethel Cain - a telephonist at the GPO's Victoria telephone exchange in London.

I can remember calling TIM to check the time - before we had our phones and other devices to keep us on track!

Same here, Gem. We often said "dial TIM" if someone wanted to know the time, and there was always the message "at the third stroke it will be....... precisely".
