          1975

          The world’s largest mining complex was opened at Selby, Yorkshire. Selby is now an attractive market town with an ancient abbey that dates back to shortly after the Norman conquest.


          I did not know this! (about it being the largest mining complex) One of my DD's lives there!

            I can remember it opening. Sister in law and her hubby moved there,when BIL went to work at the mine.
            They have since moved back here.
            My cousins hubby went to work there as well.
            Sometimes I forget to like posts,but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

                  There was a lot of discussion at the time about how accurate the join would be, and I think it was very accurate!

                  Just imagine if they’d got it totally wrong and the English team had ended up in France and the French team in England. 🤣

                      The foundation of the Samaritans, (the world's first crisis hotline organisation), by the Anglican priest Chad Varah, who was born in Barton-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire.

                              At least 40 people were killed and 80 hurt after a train derailed near Hither Green, south-east London. Survivors included Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees who died on 20th May 2012, at the age of 62, from liver and kidney failure.

                                Gosh that brought back memories Gem , I remember my Parents watching the news and my Mam saying she wouldn't be going on any trains , I found it odd as she never did anyway
