I've just watched it on YouTube, and interesting to compare it with the ice dancers of today. Today's are much more technical and athletic, but Jane and Chris had a special magic.

15 March 44BC
We're going back a bit for this one!
Julius Caesar was warned by the soothsayer 'beware the Ides of March', but he didn't listen and he was assassinated by Brutus, Cassius, and others.
The Romans counted the days of the month backwards from fixed points, and in most months the Ides is the 13th, but in March it's the 15th - so perhaps Caesar got confused.

Gem - at least people wouldn't forget her birthday!
I have never been a great Shakespeare fan, but we did Julius Caesar for O Level Eng Lit and luckily I enjoyed it. Lots of twists and turns in the plot. My other favourite was the Merchant of Venice for similar reasons.
But we had to learn how the Roman calendar worked for Latin!"Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

At a meeting in Liverpool to establish a home for dogs, the proposer, T.F. Agnew, suggested it should perhaps be turned into a home for children as he had seen the work of the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to children. On the evening of this day, the Liverpool Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children was formed. Later, it would become the National Society (NSPCC).“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown
