Oh, the excitement every week waiting to find out who was at Number 1, going to the local music shop on a Saturday to listen to the record in a little booth. Then hoping someone had bought it and would take it to the youth club on Saturday night so we could all bop away to it!

What a different world it is from today's youngsters with literally millions of tracks they can listen to at the press of a button.

      1979

The UK release of the controversial comedy film Monty Python's "Life of Brian". The film tells the story of Brian Cohen, a young Jewish man who is born on the same day as, and next door to, Jesus Christ and is subsequently mistaken for the Messiah. EMI Films withdrew funding just days before production was scheduled to begin and financing was arranged by George Harrison, former member of the Beatles and a long time Monty Python fan. Thirty-nine local authorities in the UK imposed an outright ban and some countries banned its showing for decades.

Gem, it seems a lot of youngsters are now looking for work plus training and apprenticeships rather than saddling themselves with huge debts for tuition fees.

My GS2 is looking for a degree apprentice having seen his brother doing so well under the apprenticeship scheme. Most of GS2's friends feel the same.

The first photograph of the ‘Loch Ness monster’ was taken by Mr Hugh Gray. He managed to take five pictures altogether but after processing, four of them were blank and the fifth was not confirmed as being Nessie.

I remember my mum renting a colour tv as the family Christmas present in about 1976/7. She lived with us then, so we all benefitted.

It's hard to picture Winston Churchill as a young, active man. He always seemed very elderly to me.
