Green Belt legislation was introduced to stop indiscriminate building on many areas of the countryside.

The home I grew up in, and recently sold on behalf of my mum, was built on the edge of Green Bet land in 1957.
It overlooked fields for several miles until the next village. Everyone believed that it would never be built on.
Throughout my childhood, teens and early adulthood this was so, but there are many houses and a shopping park there now. Not a field in sight.
