English novelist Daniel Defoe was made to stand in the pillory as punishment for offending the government and church with his satire 'The Shortest Way With Dissenters'. Even in the 60s there were lots of cinemas but they were one single screen - now they are multi-screens and new films get round to them very quickly.
Oma - and there were the ones with amazing Wurlitzer organs, or just tinny pianos.
