    New glasses.

I was so looking forward to getting my new glasses after the long haul with cataract operations/ complications etc. I had my eye test & chose glasses. I was so excited to think that I'd be able to see clearly again on my way to picking them up from the Opticians.

I tried them on in the shop (Vision Express) & was so disappointed. My eyes were trying really hard to work together. I could actually feel them straining. It seems there are prisms in both lens. One is pulling the muscles up in one eye whilst the other is pulling the muscles down in the other eye.

My distance glasses & Mid sight glasses came to £400+ so not cheap. I thought I'd treat myself after all the stress of four operations on my eyes. Spec fitting done I was encouraged to wear them to get used to them. I'd said about the trouble I was having but was reassured they would be ok once I got used to them.

To be honest I think I made a mistake choosing the frame I did. Never occurred to me that the wide sides would block my side vision. I left the shop wearing the glasses as advised...the floor was coming up to meet me & the headache was already starting. In the car I actually felt sea sick. By the time I went to bed I had a headache of mammoth proportions.

OH had to go into town to Drs so he kindly called into the shop to let the sales lady know. She said not to worry about the frame as that can be sorted, it's my eyesight she's more concerned about. She said for me to persevere with them for about two weeks.

I wondered if anyone has had a problem with new glasses & has tried for a refund? Their Terms & Conditions are online but all I can make out is that they apply to online purchases. Feeling really deflated & fed up with it all.

Oh Nana, how disappointing. I am sorry.
I get my glasses from Boots and I think we have 3 months to decide if they are right for us, and they can be changed in that time. I would imagine it is the same at other opticians. I haven't had to take advantage of this however.

I hope things improve as you wear them and adjust to them, but if not I would definitely go back.

Nana we have been to optitions this morning to get B,s new glasses he got last week adjusted as they were sitting to low on his nose (£385) and i had my eye test on Thursday last week but couldnt find any frames i liked so went this morning to have these glasses re lensed £267 just to reglaze , shocking isnt it ,
I must admit when i got my first Vari focals it took me 3 whole month for my eyes to adjust , i really thought it wouldnt work the girl kept saying in Spec savers give it a few weeks , at one point i asked to see the Optition and he said the same give it time , if i really couldnt manage then they would change them or refund my money , so i kept on with them then one day i realised i could see fine and they were no longer a problem .
Im hoping as these lenses are stronger i wont have the same trouble as its not comftable is it . I also had a problem a few years ago i couldnt even walk two steps in mine i couldnt see a thing when i went back they had fitted reading lenses in my distance glasses , so worth going back with them xxx

I found the same Oma but not the problems you are having Nana, my OH didn't need glasses after he had his cataracts fixed. I go to an independent opticians, in fact all the family go there. I don't understand what prisms are, I have varifocals

What a shame Nana especially as you were so looking forward to getting new glasses. You certainly paid enough and anyway you expect good service however much you pay. I do hope you get satisfaction soon.

So sorry you are not feeling too happy with your new glasses.Last time hubby got new specs,he got bi-focals. Took him a couple of weeks to get used to them,
but he says they are the best he has ever bought.
I got some new ones in November from Specsavers. Cn't remember how much, but hubby thinks they were about £215. I paid extra to have reactalite lenses.
              I'm very happy with mine.

I do have to say I got new distance glasses recently and I am not too happy with them either. I thought it was because my old ones were quite small and these are much larger. I am persevering for the moment but I bought two pairs. One with all sorts of stuff and photochromic and the others "just" for the car but I am finding the car ines better. Husband has also had new glasses. As you know he has glaucoma and has lost 90% of his peripheral vision. We discussed his glasses and the fact that he has trouble coming from the day, ight into low light levels and decided, as he had photochromic lenses and his eyes are so bad that they probably don't change quickly enough back to normal lenses. So he has got a sunglass pair and a seeing pair. He says that with he seeing ones as they are bigger than his last ones he actually can see a bit more peripherally which is a definite bonus but you wonder why the professionals had not mentioned what a difference it could make. His glasses cost a fortune and mine much less, I would rather he had the best especially with cataracts looming on the horizon.

I am going to keep wearing my glasses for a couple of weeks and then go back and speak to someone if they are still not feeling right.

Thanks for your responses. They're not bifocals. I could understand it if they were. Near sight is perfect so the distance is the reason for me wearing glasses. I'm already irritated by having to put the glasses on my head to txt or look at labels etc. Sorry for moaning.

I bought varifocals once but actually felt sick when wearing them. I have never tried them again. I am just glad husbands vision is slightly better now.

I have varifocals, can't say they are ideal but necessary. I also have a pair of just reading glasses as I find they are better for reading and sewing. I need a new pair of prescription sunglasses. Very expensive.

Plant, I have had my varifocals for 18 months now. They are useful for being out and about, for driving seeing what's around me and reading menus etc. At home I much prefer reading glasses, so will always want a pair of those too. On Sunday I bought new prescription sunglasses and reading glasses, to be picked up next week. At least at Boots us over 60's get 25% off, so that is a help.

Go back and get it sorted! My husband bought glasses in Boots he couldn't see properly with them and took them back, they retested him, made adjustments and all ended happily. Some of these Optitions just seem to want to sell you new glasses and then think there job is done.

If they are not bifocals Nana and just ordinary distance glasses there is something wrong with them , as i said before i once had reading lenses put in my distance glasses by mistake

Nana - your glasses will be covered by consumer legislation -the Consumer Rights Act 2015 - and if you are not happy with them you must go back. I think a lot of people get a slight headache with new lenses at first, but this sounds as though they really are not right for you. It's worth going back to have them checked against your prescription, and that the graduation between the two prescriptions is in the right place for you. If you still can't get on with them, then go back again and ask for a refund or retesting and mew glasses.

I can imagine how disappointing it is when you'd looked forward to getting them.
