    The dreaded arthritis.

Well I had to go back to the docs.as the pain in my knee has shifted from the back to the front. I was having to take painkillers more than I'd like and walking, especially going up stairs or slopes is really bad. The doctor thinks it is arthritis and a bony spur is pressing on a ligament. Anyway I went for an X-Ray with results in two weeks. So I'll have to continue with the "drugs" and try to do exercises to strengthen the muscles round the knee joint.
    Hey ho what next!

Clover I have bad knees too I have had physio ,drugs, etc the only thing that worked for me is a injection . I'm not allowed to kneel down as the Arthritis has worn the knee cap and now it's sort of pushed to the side , some days it was very difficult to walk but these injections make it so much easier , fingers crossed your X rays come back quick

Same here My left knee collapsed last year. X-ray, MRI and then an Arthoscopy in March where the surgeon took out floating cartilage, filed down bony spurs, and generally tidied up. It has taken a few months but I am so much better and now have full movement back. I'm told a replacement is inevitable so I expect that's where you two are going eventually as well?

Sometimes the X-ray doesn't show very much, as in my case but the MRI was very much better and the consultant knew exactly what he had to do. I was a day patient, in a 7 am and out at 2pm, walking! Excercises are essential as the muscles have to support the poorly knee bone. Good luck ladies, we are all in this together it seems

Clover - it sounds very painful - and the fact that it's so common doesn't make it hurt less. My sympathies to all three of you. For years, I have been getting occasional pain in my right knee after a sailing incident where I twisted it badly, but as it's intermittent, I don't worry too much. Last time I mentioned it to the osteopath he said it was a very good knee!!! Well, you have to take compliments where you can when you get to my age!!!

Ooo you poor things. That must be painful & life changing. All the pressure of our bodies go through our knees. Hope things improve for you all.

I feel for you all that suffer from arthritis. Do you all suffer more in winter when it's cold?

Gem, thanks for asking. I had an X-Ray and there isn't any arthritis which is good news but doesn't explain the pain. The doc.thinks it might be related to a ligament which he said could take quite a long time to resolve.

Clover, it is good news it isn't arthritis.
Soft tissue injuries such as that take a long time to heal, much longer than bones as bones have a better blood supply. Everyone is different, so I hope your healing doesn't take too long xx
