Today my OH went to his first smokers clinic, I’ve found it quite bizarre , she asked how much he smoked which is about 10 miniature cigars a day , he had to blow into a contraption and she asked if she had heard him properly number came up on the blowing thing was 9 , she said ususally smokers are about 20 , so is he healthier than we think? She’s given him tablets one morning and one night for 12 weeks called Champrix and to carry on smoking .
It is a medication that works in two ways. It reduces cravings for nicotine, but it also blocks the rewarding and reinforcing effects of smoking.

Evidence suggests it's the most effective medication for helping people stop smoking.
So carry on and we will see you in 2 weeks , I don’t know what I expected but after 12 weeks his craving will have stopped , oh ye of little faith qwerty , I hope so 🙏

That “r” made all the difference Qwerty 😀. I was interested in reading about it, when DH went to the stop smoking clinic they gave him nicotine patches, never heard of this.

Lol apparently it been out a few years , I’ve got it wrong as usual you carry on smoking till the pills kick in then you stop smoking but carry on taking the pills for 12 weeks, I’m tired I think

Qwerty - as long as it works! Eventually he will not only feel better for not smoking but he'll be proud of giving up - it's a big achievement. My OH is still chuffed 13 years on!

(I'm glad the medication doesn't do double duty as animal feed. )

My DS was given this but it didn't work for him , he eventually went on to these e cigs but I think they just as addictive he had to wean himself off them too

Oma, both my DS2 and DIL2 use eciggies. They make up their own mixtures so can control the amount of nicotine in them. I must admit I don't worry as much about them vaping as I did when they smoked cigarettes. But well done to your DS.

It’s funny, but since P gave up smoking he is so anti smoking now. Even though he wasn’t a heavy smoker we know that damage has been done so well done to everyone who has or is giving up. It’s the best thing you can do for your health. I’m still not sure about the ecigs, DH found the patches a real help and after previous failed attempts they really helped.

Enfys, they often say that ex smokers are the keenest anti smoking people!
One SIL and my ex OH both vape now. DD2's FIL gave up a few years ago, but her MIL still smokes. She and my mum are the only smokers in our family now, if you don't count the 2 Vapers!

Enfys, my OH is the same - really anti smoke and smoking! DS2 would never have managed to give up smoking, but he started vaping years ago when there were no vaping shops or anything ready made. He spent hours reading everything he could find about e-ciggies and joined an online vaping community. He's certainly better off without cigarettes and has reduced the amount of nicotine to next to nothing. So, although I think it would be better to give up altogether, I do think this is the least harmful alternative for him. They've been using e-ciggies for about 7 or 8 years now!

My youngest BIL has always smoked (he's 68) and he now has problems with the blood flow in his legs and can only walk a few yards without being inn pain. He's been told he absolutely has to give up. It's a huge struggle for him, though.

My oldest Sister smoked 40 a day she was like a chimney , after both my Dad and Sister both died from Lung Cancer we were hoping she would give up but she didn't ,
Then her husband had 2 heart attacks , he gave up, again she didn't ,
Then about 8 years ago she had a scare and finally gave up , she went cold Turkey and has never had one since , never ever thought I would see the day , very proud of her ,
Never having smoked myself ive always been anti smoking , but I understand how hard it must have been for her .
