I think maybe Oma's suggestion of a smaller loft hatch being fitted may be the answer I had a glance in my neighbours bathroom and her loft hatch does seem bigger than ours and after talking to another who has lived here for many years the whole of the bathroom was stripped out and replastered and tiled when a previous tenant lived here,I can imagine the workers from the HA not venturing into the loft when they where working they would never do a job that is not on their list thats for sure.
I am going to ask DS2 to go up there and see if he can get it down for us when he has time off from work.

& so the saga continues🤣 You must tell us the outcome Glam. You've got us all puzzled.

When moving armchairs or sofas I'm always confused which part to put through the door 1st. We'd like an armchair to go upstairs into a bedroom but it just won't budge whichever way we try.😂😂

Nana we always turn a chair on its side and take it out tall back first so you can angle it around a corner . How removal men get in and out some gaps always amazes me 😀

On the theme of furniture getting stuck, I remember a colleague of OH's moving into a 4 storey town house and their brand new corner sofa wouldn't go up even the first flight of stairs. they had to remove a window and haul it up with a crane! I think it would have been cheaper to buy a new sofa!

Oh good grief Daisy! The mind boggles how they got the rest in.

Heard of that before Daisy , new houses where the staircase's are not wide enough to get stuff in ,
My SIL's parents live in a split level home you come in front door then have to go downs a flight of stairs for the living room and kitchen ,
Its difficult to get stuff in as its very tight on the stairs, luckily their back garden faces onto a road around the perimeter of the estate so when they got their new sofas they took the fence panel out and brought the sofas through the patio doors

We had a lovely big loft in our house that DH boarded in and carpeted and the children used it as a play room. Now, we are in a bungalow with a loft conversion so the on,y loft space is a small area under the eaves that you have to crawl in. It does mean, however, that we can’t keep loads of possessions (junk!?) up there so it’s just stuff like suitcases, a box of china, some old books and,the Christmas decorations, Every now and, then we have a sort out and declutter. Luckily it’s all boarded out so makes it easy to creep in and out.

You would be so surprised as to how many people do not bother to measure the doorways and stair access to their properties when they buy furniture, when I worked for the Charity and sold sofa's etc I always insisted that they go back home and measure to confirm the width's etc after we had a fair amount of people had bought and then couldn't take delivery I felt so sorry for the volunteer delivery drivers when this happened,I did have one chap who actually cut a L shaped corner suit in half to get it up the stairs we just couldn't believe that he did this even though he was a decent enough chap he was slightly strange as you can guess.

Ha. Poor bloke must have really liked the corner unit. I make it rule of thumb that when we go furniture shopping I take measurements. The big furniture shops make the size of furniture look small.

Nana - that's true of a lot of things. They look small in a large shop and are huge when you get them home. Trying to get things in the car can be a problem too. Anybody who has ever stood and watched Ikea customers struggling to get their purchases in their cars will know what I mean. There was one occasion when you may have seen OH and I taking the car apart and re-assembling it to get everything in!!
