That is a really excellent painting Daisy, you should be very proud of it. Love the clouds.

Gem - I haven't tried drawing yet! I do mark where I want the horizon to go and literally measure each side. Photographers are totally neurotic about level horizons!! Apart from that I just wade straight in. Perhaps I ought to go to the Van Gogh Immersive!!!
It is useful to have a bank of photos to choose from without having to think about copyright, but I find I'm critiquing the photos as photographs before considering them for painting.
Thank you ladies for your kind comments - it's lovely to get encouragement, but I'm still up for advice as well, please.
WeeGranny - I watched a video tutorial which helped to banish the slugs!Ironically the day this photo was taken there was a cloudless sky, with just a slight haze on the horizon, but when I painted it it looked totally unrealistic so I used a whole tubful of artistic licence!

Time to bore you all with Seascape number 4! I'm trying to work on different problems and this time I've put a bit more thought into perspective for the little beach shelter in the sea. It was sunrise, and I'm disappointed I haven't managed to capture the drama of the original with the sun and very dark clouds - but will try again on another. I do want to improve, but I'm enjoying it so much it almost doesn't matter!
It's taken from my favourite beach in Cuba!

Ladies, thank you very much - you're very good at encouraging me. Well I didn't have clouds in this one - just a little shading towards the horizon, but these are my very first palm trees. I know they're tiny, but I don't know if I'm ready to tackle big important ones yet. I've watched several tutorials, but still not confident enough to give them a go.
WeeGranny - Your Minehead painting? I'd love to see that finished."Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognise how good things really are. "

WeeGranny - perhaps painting is the last thing on your mind at the moment, but I wonder if you've had time or inclination to finish the one you had on the go?
I've just finished another seascape one. The photo was taken from almost the same spot at the one with the little beach shelter in the water, but at very low tide and a dramatic sunrise. This is the first one I'm really disappointed with, in that I got fed up and impatient with it - I couldn't get the colours or the drama of the original photo. Never mind - it's all a learning curve, and what I've learned from this is mixing some colours is much harder than mixing others! I couldn't capture the golden rosy glow with the contrasting very dark areas.
