Been to see Rhys today he needed to see Ryan.
It was really nice seeing them catch up with each other.
Rhys insisted that Daddy helped him to stand up so we could see how good his legs were, even though his back hurt. Then he went in his wheelchair to show Grandad the three shops in the hospital. That place is like a maze, lots of buildings too. We started off in the wrong one then the fire brigade were at the one we needed. Finally we were in the wrong part but on the right floor and the cleaning lady had to swipe us through all the doors to finally find them.
Well worth that and the 2hour drive to see him smile.
Thank you for all your support, DD has read all your msgs to him and he said he will work really hard and make you proud 😁

My GD saw a photo of him on FB while I was scrolling though on my phone to show her something else and asked who he was.. I told her he was a little boy born around the same time as she was, but had had problems and had an operation to help him with walking. She said she thought he was very brave, when she saw the photo of him trying to smile so soon after his operation.

Missed this whilst we were away. So pleased to hear it all went well, what a fantastic little boy he is. I can understand how worried you were, I was the same when GS had his heart surgery, but onwards and upwards for Rhys now. Best wishes to you all x

He's done so well. Made the 2 hour car journey home. Agony for his back, round all those bends. He's so glad that's over. He can only have paracetamols as ibuprofen is not allowed because of his kidney problem. They always seem ok for a headache, but I'm amazed they work on anything worse.
The physio saw him today and was amazed to hear he'd been out of bed to the loo more than once and had actually stood up, (with help) twice already. She said most kids don't want to do anything for the first 5 days. I just hope he's not rushing too much. Everyone is so keen, and Rhys just wants to please. But he wouldn't if he couldn't.
The surgeon came and took hold of Rhys' leg and just waggled it around to show how loose his legs are now . That would have taken two hands and some pressure to get any movement, before. He just needs to strengthen his muscles now with physio.
Rhys' stock phrase is, "It's no good, I'm not going to be able to do it. We may as well give up." But he always gives it a go, even when you say OK try later. He never gives up. It must just be his back up , to himself.
Onwards and upwards. I can't wait to see his face when he finds out just what he CAN do!

Spoke to Rhys this morning and he sounds a different boy back to life and enthusiastic again. He s been doing a few exercises and is sat in some very jazzy "gaiters " I think they keep his knees flat and straight. So really getting stuck in.
He's not complaining about his back and says it's not hurting.
We're popping in later for a quick visit. 😁
