Some of you will have seen on Facebook, that we've had some good news for Rhys. We have been told he is a good candidate for the SDR operation. This will help him to walk much freer, keep his balance and free up some of the pain. This op is no longer funded by the Nhs,, so my DD has reluctantly opened a funding page. The reason I'm telling you all is that her friends in the village have really taken Rhys to heart and have taken over.
I am amazed at the help he has had and the money they have raised , in such a short time.
The village tearoom has made "Rocky Road"cake and sold it for Rhys. The Methodist Church has given all the coffee morning profits, and some, for the last 6 weeks. The Mens Drinking Club in the next village have donated £1000, as have the local "Lions" group.
The PTFA have arranged a school disco, a "Super Hero" disco, as he is their Super Hero, and it's on his birthday. The best party ever!
This Easter Saturday we are having a 3K walk around the village. Rhys is starting it off and there are medals and Easter Eggs for all. The event keeps growing and growing. The Scouts are selling wristbands and another group are making bracelets, there's a cake stall, and the Tearoom are doing refreshments. There's a Circuit Training Group donating their profits too and other individuals doing sponsored events of their own. And so many of their friends and mine from all over the country and overseas have given so freely. It really is overwhelming.
We are just so staggered at peoples generosity and enthusiasm to help our Rhys.
It's a bit like DIY SOS, where the whole community comes together to help. So heart warming.
We have enough money now for the operation to go ahead this June. He just needs to have a MRI scan and an ultra sound scan first. Then my DD says the hard work really starts as in the physio which is very intense and hard going.
It'll be nerve wracking having the op, but it seems he'll be out of bed in no time and straight into the physio, before he's allowed home. Then twice a week sessions , plus horse riding and swimming in the hydro pool, all helping to strengthen his core and sort those legs out. Without it he's heading for life in the wheelchair.
He's ever hopeful. He wants to be back on his feet in time for the school sports day, so he can win
How on earth can we thank everyone. I was feeling guilty as you're supposed to help your family through things like this, but now I realise we just couldn't fund it all ourselves, the physio will go on for years and will have to be paid for, so there's still a role for us.
I'm making little "Rabbits for Rhys", to sell at the Easter Walk, and cakes too , of course.
Even my Mam is getting sponsored for the Walk, I'm the lucky one pushing her round. Just hope the sun shines on us.
We've lived in this village for 34 years and I don't think I'm well known, but Our Rhys certainly is!!
I'll update you all when he has the operation.
Don't we live in a beautiful village, with such kind people. We are blessed.

If this link works , you should see some videos of Rhys trying to walk in his latest leg braces etc Also I think further down is a video my DD has put on showing the results for another little boy , we're hoping for the same. It makes me cry every time I watch it, it's so good.
