We are off to Tenerife next week. This would be something I should look forward to, but I have only just read the reviews for the hotel and they are dire! A friend booked it, and as he and his wife are very particular we just assumed it would be good and didn't bother to read reviews earlier. There are eight of us going, the men will play golf in the morning and we ladies will play cards or read or chat.
Totally my fault for not investigating earlier and so OH and I will keep our counsel and be vegetarian for a week.
    Ho hum.....
I forgot to mention that wifi is £5 a day. 😳

I'm sure your very particular friends would have mentioned it if it was really awful, the place we stayed at in Majorca in May had some questionable reviews but we found it very pleasent indeed as said by Oma go with an open mind and you may be very surprised.

Two of the most recent reviews involved cockroaches in the dining room.........

GM - I have to admit to having a very dark grey (not quite totally black) sense of humour, and my first thought was - I hope the cockroaches were eating quietly!

Seriously, sometimes people put up malicious reviews, and if your very careful friends have done their homework it's probably nowhere near as bad as you fear. I'm sure you will enjoy the company and the break, and hopefully some sunshine.

We are in Tenerife right now and the weather is just lovely and so are the hotel staff.

When we went to Egypt I only read the reviews after it had been booked and it all seemed pretty normal to me. Trouble is that anyone can post reviews and get others to do the same and the businesses can't do anything about it.

We will go with an open mind and be sure to enjoy ourselves whatever we find. I do prefer my cockroaches grilled though Daisy. 😆
Glad the weather is good Shemadee, looking forward to a break and to wearing my new uncrushable hat. 👒
It will be my birthday while we are away and we will have a good time, no doubt, even if we have to go elsewhere to do it. 🎂🍸

We were in Portugal many years ago and I'm not kidding the cockroach,s that were walking up the walls outside were the size of mice and ants everywhere but we gritted our teeth and had a wonderful time you make the most of it and never darken there doors again if you don't like it . We went with our children when they were younger and our friends and there children we made a game who could find the biggest cockroach stopped them being afraid of them ☺

We have been to Tenerife many times and I must admit I always read the reviews. When we came back from the last trip in March Imposted quite a nice review and looked through the ones between our booking and my review and I have to say that some of those people must have been in a different place to us. Someone said the pool was dirty and cold and the same person said the housekeeping was seriously bad. In fact the pool was quite cold but it was spotlessly clean and the housekeeping was every other day as you had a complete little flat so obviously you look after yourselves for some of the time and when they were in they were very thorough even down to putting paper things across the loo, sink, bath etc., to say they had been cleaned, plus there was a lady who walked around constantly and if she saw anything she thought was wrong it was soon put right. If the reviews are consistently bad I would think twice but maybe your friends have been there before and know that sometimes people are incredibly picky. Have a lovely time and a lovely birthday.

We read dire reviews for the hotel we stayed at in Malta, but although basic was not nearly as bad as ghe posters had written. To be honest many of the reviewers must of just wanted 5* for the cost of 3* now I tend to ignore most reviews on trip advisor. Hope you end up having a fabulous holiday.

Well, we went, we saw ,we did our best. It was the first Saga experience and probably the last. The hotel was very clean, not a cockroach in sight, dining room and food perfectly acceptable but it was a family hotel, not for crinklies like us. The jacuzzi was directly beneath our balcony and constantly full of children. If there had been a 'boil' option I would have used it.
We used the Saga lounge and met some very nice people. As a group of eight we didn't need other people but we are a friendly bunch and joined in.
Sadly we learned that one person had to spend a week in intensive care, another turned out to be an alcoholic and a yet another passed away the day before we (and they,) were due home.
Back to self catering or boutique type hotels I think.

I brought home some very nice things, 2 glass fish pictures, a chest infection and two bruised knees. My grandson (6) said "why do you always come home from holiday ill grandma?" It's true, I do!

Oh dear GM, did you have a fall? Hope you are ok.

What a time you had, sad about the other holidaymakers. But at least you tried something different and know now

I did Enfys. I tripped on a small step and went flying. It was a tiled floor and I thought I was a dead woman at the time!! Not only the knee caps but calf muscles and an arm too. Trouble is, the cough makes the loo more urgent but the knees don't move quickly at present.😳😆
