Part 4 - Vancouver and home!

Unfortunately the time in Vancouver was dull and largely rainy!
We stayed in a very nice hotel with comfortable beds. In fact every bed in each hotel was extremely comfortable.

The first morning we had a coach tour of Vancouver. We visited Queen Elizabeth Park which was nice and had a specimen of every tree in Canada in the one park. It was fine at that time so we enjoyed some time in the park.
Then to Stanley Park. There was a stop for quick look round and toilet break but by then the heavens had opened. Only the most hardy, or desperate for the loo got off the coach. We did not.
The afternoon and evening were free.
There was an optional add-on of an Alaskan cruise at the end of the holiday. Those going on that only had the rest of this day to explore Vancouver. As we were not taking the cruise we had most of the following day. So that afternoon we just relaxed at our hotel and went out to eat that evening. On Caroline's recommendation we had a lovely meal at a restaurant not far down the road.

The following day we had to have our cases ready for 10am and check out by 11. We were to meet Caroline at 3 for transfer to the airport.
That morning we walked down to the waterfront, had a look round and a coffee. On the way back we met up with our new friends, went to lunch with them then back to the hotel together.
We were transferred to Vancouver airport in style. Eight of us and Caroline on the big coach!
We had been a party of 39, so 31 people went on to cruise, and eight of us went home.

Vancouver airport was lovely, my favourite part of Vancouver actually
I can see it is good place to live, but it was too built up for me, and we got scared off by all the warnings as to which areas we must not go into! Because it has the mildest climate in Canada it attracts homeless people and people with drug and mental health problems. The government do the best they can to help but there are still so many poor people wandering the streets.

We had a good flight home. On the way out I had watched three films new to me. On the way home I chose two old favourites - ET and the first Harry Potter film

We were very glad we had booked the night at the airport hotel. We felt a lot more rested for our tube and train journey home the next day. There was plenty of space in our First Class carriage and of course we got lunch thrown in.
We caught the bus from outside the train station to the end of our road. This was very entertaining ride which deserves its own thread so I won't describe it here!!

Gem, how sad that there are parts of Vancouver which are no-go areas. I suppose it's the same in most cities around the world, but it seems even sadder when the city can be as beautiful as Vancouver. It's many years since we were there, and I don't think I'd want to go back and see that it's deteriorated.

You certainly did the right thing staying in the airport hotel the night you got back. I'm very curious about the entertaining bus ride, so will look forward to hearing all about it.
