    Changing Times

There was an item on the tv news yesterday about it being 50 years since Radio 1 was launched as the BBC's pop station's answer to the pirate radio stations. The DJ was Tony Blackburn and the first track was "Flowers in the Rain" by the Move:

The piece went on to show a transistor radio to young people in the street and ask them if they knew what it was and how to work it! A couple of people had no idea, one girl even held it upside down.

Then they gave it to a young teenage boy who hadn't seen one before but switched it on and tuned it in straight away.

So we might not be bang up to date with all the latest technology, but I bet we can all work a good old tranny!

The first time my GS3 saw a vinyl record, he looked at the size of it and said to his father, there must be a lot stored on there.

I can remember listening to the very start of Radio One as if it were yesterday.
I was lay in bed with my small transistor radio beside me. The radio was just over the size of an adults hand . It was in a black leather case with a strap on one of the corners so that it was easy to carry around. I was 13 and I thought I was extremely 'hip' with this radio as most of my friends hadn't a radio of their own.

Just think - in years to come our GCs will be telling their children how they got their first smart phone or other gadget!

We had got married that July and were waiting to move into our first home in North Wales. We were living in a rented flat which was dark, dismal and depressing - flowers in any weather would have been great.
