Exercise for the over 50's keeps the mind sharp!

Apparently exercising in our age group improves our mind as well as our body. Most of us know that it also improves our mood too.
So, we should be more of it

The brain is fed with more oxygen and nutrients, boosting thinking and memory skills.

Although I love my bowls, I really miss my swimming, I have not had the heart since my swimming friend died last summer. Keep saying I will join an aquarobics class. It must be difficult to find the time for you grandmas who look after GC. Perhaps we should all enter the Marathon next year as a team, or perhaps not.

I love aquaerobics, it's good fun, easy on the joints and you can work hard or go a bit slower. Some pools have different grades of classes - gentle, deep water, etc.
I can understand how you feel about swimming without your friend Plant xx

I'm not personally a fan of swimming mainly because I fear water. Not the sea or the oceans, just water....so I tend to avoid swimming and the local baths are SO heavily chlorinated they make your eyes run for days!

I love Yoga and Tai Chi and Ballet exercises, but can't do these much with my old knees There is a Yoga class locally on Fridays so I may be able to join this if they can let me off certain positions as I can't get up very easily from lying or sitting on the floor

We walk a bit, weather permitting. I used to be a gym bunny but those days are long gone. I love gardening now more than anything.

Who needs to go to the gym ?
Get out of bed , put cat out, she comes back in because the big bully cats are out there, don on shoes , dressing gown and get water pistol, go out side and chase bully cat away. Come in , put cat back outside. Get back into bed, get out again to spend penny. Go back to bed .
Get up and do washing, put washing out, walk to the supermarket buy plants , come home and put them on the patio, gets very windy so put plants in the grow house. Cook lunch , sun comes out , get plants out of grow house .
Start eating lunch, noticed its snowing, bring in washing, put plants back in grow house . Come back on only to find cat sat on the washing, put her outside!
Finish lunch, wash up notice the sun is out so rehang the washing, get back inside and it's snowing again!!!
Given up, going to put the kettle, I'm shattered !!!
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

Mimi - I get the picture! Change a few details (we don't have a cat!) and that's the story of my life, too.

As for keeping the mind sharp - remembering what I went upstairs for is as good as it gets.

... but it makes a very good place to put clothes when you can't decide whether to put them in the laundry bin or back in the wardrobe!

I find it a bit alarming that people under 50 seem to think the 'old' are over 50, when in fact they are over 90 .... or perhaps 95.

Over 50 indeed how insulting when you only feel 25 !!!,I am going to join a Tai Chi class at the community centre right opposite my new home next week my friend says she feels fantastic since she joined and it may help with my weight loss plan, when we where packing up to move I found a hula-hoop under my bed I remember buying it a couple of years ago with every intention of using it every morning it must have been put there by mistake I think

My craft group covers them with giant crochet!

seriously, though ... The last time I saw the doc for my bp check I asked him about the GP referral scheme where they refer you to the local gym and you get classes for half price. They do some great classes for "seniors" that are really good. He signed both of us up for it and we have been going for 6 or 7 weeks now and I have noticed a real difference in my joints, so much better now. We really enjoy the classes and think that when our three months on the scheme is up we will join the gym. The cost will be,the same as paying for one class but you can go as often as you want, do as many classes as you want, swim and use the gym. I think it would be really good for us both physically and mentally plus there is the social side too.

ill let you know how we get on,

edited to add: And my bp has gone down!
