74 to old to have a baby surely!

I have noticed that a woman from India has given birth to twins by Caesarean section. The twins were conceived after IVF treatment. Her husband is 82 and later that day, after the birth he suffered a stroke and he is now being treated in hospital.

Now whatever your views are on IVF I think this is a completely inappropriate treatment for a woman of this age.
Just because a couple haven’t been able to have children naturally doesn’t give them the right to have a child at all cost. There should be a cut off point when the couple get to a certain age . There are so many younger people out there who this treatment should be aimed at.

You have to wonder that the ‘company’ who gave her this IVF treatment just saw the £££s and the welfare of mum and the bday(s) were of little consequence.
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

Nan2, it's hard to imagine that anyone could think this would be a good idea.

74 year old bodies are not designed to carry a baby or give birth, let alone to twins. We all know with our GC, who are not with us every day, that we do not have the strength and stamina to look after them that we did in our 20's, 30's and 40's.
Children should not be brought up by that generation. I know it can work when it has to, but it's not the ideal scenario.
I always wanted to be mother and know I would have done anything to have a baby, but there must come a time when you accept this is not going to happen for you?
I wonder if the couple have other 'children' who will probably end up bringing up these children?
I must look up the story.

I agree, Gem. Carrying a baby and giving birth, no matter by what method is the hardest work a woman ever does. Nature knew what she was doing when she gave us the menopause (even if we didn't think so at the time).

I hope those little babies have a large and loving family to help give them a proper, active childhood.

I read this yesterday it sounds like the Drs were paying for the whole lot as a experiment, one said it was a challenge for them , where are the ethics with these Dr's .

She has no other children but a large extended family who will end up caring for these poor babies

Very selfish, no wonder her husband had a heart attack.

The chances are those children may not have a living parent at the age of about 10 ish . Why would anyone do that? She must have gone through a very uncomfortable time conceiving and all that followed. Thoughtless by all concerned I think.

Absolutly awful news the Drs. are just using her for experiment nothing else I think they should be struck off any medical register,I have worries about the care of these babies in future years as there is no close family.
