I noticed this yesterday on FB, and thought it would make a good topic here.
When you were a child, what were you afraid of?
I was very afraid of the Big Bad Wolf who I was certain lived up my auntie's (mum's sister) stairs. We went there every week. I would beg my mum to accompany me to the toilet and if she wouldn't I dashed up stairs on and off the loo and downstairs in record time, so convinced was I of the wolves presence. We lived in a bungalow so didn't have any stairs at home. I think I was eventually told there were no wolves in England let alone in my auntie's 3 bed semi The fear was with me for a long time, or it seemed so to me at the time.
I was also very frightened of Big Boys. There was one who used to scare me on the way home from the shop when I ran errands for my mum.
I have no memory of being afraid of spiders, insects, ghosts or anything else.
