What were you afraid of ?

I noticed this yesterday on FB, and thought it would make a good topic here.

When you were a child, what were you afraid of?

I was very afraid of the Big Bad Wolf who I was certain lived up my auntie's (mum's sister) stairs. We went there every week. I would beg my mum to accompany me to the toilet and if she wouldn't I dashed up stairs on and off the loo and downstairs in record time, so convinced was I of the wolves presence. We lived in a bungalow so didn't have any stairs at home. I think I was eventually told there were no wolves in England let alone in my auntie's 3 bed semi The fear was with me for a long time, or it seemed so to me at the time.

I was also very frightened of Big Boys. There was one who used to scare me on the way home from the shop when I ran errands for my mum.

I have no memory of being afraid of spiders, insects, ghosts or anything else.

I have thought about this and I can’t think of anything I was afraid of ,
There most likely was but I can’t remember anything .
Maybe I’ve pushed it to the back of my mind

..or just braver and more sensible than me Oma

I was an over imaginative child who was on her own a lot.
Thinking back I am amazed at some of the things I spent time thinking about!

Myself and B had a talk about this last night apart from the dark as all children are we couldn’t think of anything else .
In them days B wasn’t afraid of the dentist that manifested much later in life .

There was a man who carried a air rifle all over and he was a bit mad , we remember being told to keep away from him but not in a scary way , we were told he wasn’t well and accepted that . I suppose we could have been scared of him but I don’t think we were, just cautious.

If I think back to childhood it was the dark and cows in a field I had to cross.

I was afraid of my teddy bear! It was a Christmas present when I was about 5, and I woke on Christmas morning to find it sitting at the end of my bed, starting at me (as I thought). It was dark brown and it gave me the creeps.

                  Awww Daisy!

I cant say I was afraid of this, but I hated my bedroom wallpaper. My mum with all good intentions I'm sure bought me some pink wallpaper with ballerinas on it and Dad put it up. I hated their faces and thought they were ugly! Money was never plentiful when I was a child so I had to put up with it for some time!

I don't think I was ever frightened of anything, maybe an old tramp once when leaving school, a teacher run us home and my brother and myself were sat in her car waiting outside the school and the "tramp" started banging on the car with his stick, I think that is the only time I was scared as a child, the rest came later!

Lizzie, anyone banging on the car like that would be scary!

Gem, your artistic side must have kicked in with that wall paper.
