    Summer person or Winter person?

We have been discussing this on Chat.

Are you a summer or winter person? (or do you love all seasons equally?)
Why do you think you feel as you do?

I am totally a summer person no doubt whatsoever. Summer, spring, autumn, winter is my order of season preference.

The things I love about summer are many.
Long days and light evenings, spending so much time outdoors, flowers and greenery everywhere, no coats, scarves, boot etc. Balmy evenings, lovely outdoor socialising. Days out, holidays.
There is nothing I dislike apart from extremely hot days when I can't be in the shade.

The things I hate about winter are- Short days. Dark when you get up, dark by mid afternoon. Cold weather, grey miserable days, dark leafless trees. Snow and ice making walking and driving difficult. Very few opportunities for outdoor leisure activities and socialising. Being holed up inside.
Things I like are - Christmas and anything which brightens up dark dismal winter!

When my two older children were small my husband worked evenings in the theatre, getting home at 11 or later. With two small children in bed, I was stuck at home alone every night. No internet then, and very few TV channels! I didn't mind in summer but I hated being closed in in winter. I can't remember if I hated winter so much before that. I don't think I did, so I do to an extent blame those years for my intense winter hatred.

Gem - I share exactly the same order of preference!

Things I love about summer are getting up and not having to worry if what you wear will be warm enough. No matter how I put this it sounds bad, but the fewer clothes I have to wear the better! All doors and windows open from morning till it gets dark. Salads, meals outside (when I can persuade OH!) Pimms, most of our family birthdays are from end April to the end of August. Relaxing in the garden with a cuppa. Walking in the Forest or on the beach. When we were younger, dinghy sailing.

My dread of winter started many, many years ago. We had moved from the edge of a city to a lovely but isolated village just months before my father died. I hadn't passed my test at that stage (I was just 18) so we had no transport and a very spasmodic rural bus service. The coke-fired central heating boiler in the bungalow we'd moved to kept going out, pipes kept bursting, lights etc fusing, and I was the one who had to fix them all. I had to walk 2-3 miles home every night because the bus didn't come into the village, unlit and unmade roads. Then came the winter of 1963 which made everything else look like a picnic!

Spring is great, because there's that anticipation of summer to come, lighter mornings and evenings, the garden and nature coming to life, Easter and a general sense of anticipation of things to come.

Autumn is ok, especially if it's dry. For years we'd go away somewhere hot at the end of October and that helped to shorten winter a little. Nothing good has happened in our family in November to lift the gloom, so by December I just want to get winter over and done with. Where we live now is very, very wet in the winter, and almost everywhere you walk is deep mud, and I hate those dull dark days of endless rain.

I think I'd better go and see how dinner is cooking and pour myself a glass of wine!

Same order of seasons for me. One thing about spring, is everything coming to life again.
When our house was still a council house,we had no central heating. We had a coal fire in the living room, and electric heaters in the bedrooms and kitchen. We made it as cosy as we could.
Crisp sunny winter mornings look nice though.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Nanto - I'm such a misery that I don't even like those cold, crisp winter days. My hair's full of static, I itch all over and feel really irritable!

It must have been a joy when you got your heating sorted out.

I am quite happy with all seasons but I hate the darker evenings.
What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare

I get Winter blues , I feel tired all the time and out of sorts , Summer I love not having to wear a coat although we don’t get as much heat in the north as the south ,
I don’t like extremely hot days or blazing sun I’m not good with that type of heat but nice warm comfortable days .

I hate Autumn with a passion, love to see the colours changing but then the damn leaves fall , we are surrounded with so many trees it’s a constant battle picking them up in the garden , the guttering get blocked with them , for some reason it’s always our Drive they pile up in

Spring is nice when it’s not constant rain .
Im not fat just 6ft too small

Difficult, I don't mind the winter months, then again I always find the month December very depressing, I am not a Christmas person, I look forward to January when the days start getting longer. I enjoy the summer when I can get out and about, but, this is a huge but, I don't need the heat! I love this time of year although it is very warm now for September. I love the colouring of the trees, unlike Oma, the falling leaves don't bother me up here.

I tend to like all seasons but my least favourite is summer - especially if we get very high temperatures as we have had this year. I still get hot flushes so very hot temps just make them worse. I quite like Autumn as I love the changing colours on the trees. Winter doesn’t bother me but I hate it when it’s dark at 3 o’clock!!

Fairyqueen - I hate those dark afternoons as well, and the days that are so grey and dull it never seems to get light. I can't imagine anything worse than living in the Artic circle and having constant darkness in the winter!

Lizzie - I think Christmas is nice, but I hate all the commercialism and the fact that already Christmas things are being promoted in shops and on the internet. I know some people love the build up, and plan well ahead (Gem and Nanto? ) But I find it hard to get enthusiastic until we're well into December! And who knows what it will bring this year with Covid!
