    Because we're British

Who on earth would leave home on a very warm Spring day, with 3 children, a baby and 4 adults, and a borrowed Labrador all dressed for the beach, fully expecting to sit in the sunshine, have a paddle, possibly an ice ream and enjoy the view across the Solent to the Isle of Wight, confident that this is what would happen? Then to find that as they drove the 5 or so miles south (as the crow flies) that a thick swirling sea mist is rolling in from the south, but determinedly plough on to their chosen destination?

Then to be pleasantly surprised that there's space - plenty of it! - in the car park? And stroll along the beach, keeping the children within visibility in the thickening mist, throw sticks into the sea for the dog to retrieve, dig holes in the sand, decorate an abandoned sandcastle, collect shells and stick it out determined to have the planned afternoon on the beach. Then walk back to the harbour for a spot of crabbing - oh and change the baby from the skin outwards because she had sat on wet sand, and eventually get home, tired, sandy, damp and hungry thinking they'd had a great day out!

You've guessed it - Daisy and Co.

But I like to think it shows our British spirit even when the odds are stacked against you.

Either that or we were stupid!!!! LOL

Sort of thing we would do Daisy! BUT it's days like this that hold as precious memories for all concerned. I remember taking DD3, 2 foster sons and dog 60 miles to Skeggy, in my 3 wheeler Reliant Robin, one November. The weather was so warm, we all swam in the warm sea, dug sand castles had a picnic in the park, it was like a lovely spring day. However, on our homeward journey the fogs came down, then it started to freeze and my heater didn't work!!! We eventually arrived home to discover the weather had been freezing fog all day round our home town. Everyone thought we were batty to go to the coast on such a day and refused to believe we had such glorious sunshine and were swimming in the sea. Happy memories!!

Teragram, I agree, and it was the baby's first time playing on the beach, although she's had lots of buggy rides there. It was lovely to see her fascination with every stone and every grain of sand.

When the children were small we had a picnic in the rain. It had been planned days before hand and nothing, and I mean nothing was going to stop us enjoying ourselves !

Us too, when DD was a child we went exploring no matter the weather. It was all about getting out, having fun, eating ice creams in the cold and rain, battling against everything which told us we should not be enjoying ourselves

Thats what I would call "The Dunkirk Spirit" Daisy We are very very lucky as The Beach is only a stones throw from where we live and we visit every day, needless to say we don't tend to value the enjoyment visitors get when they come in to the area for the day, sounds like the little ones enjoyed it you will be finding sand for days to come

Most of our days out now end up in the rain.....I don't think we would go anywhere if we relied on our British Weather, it is nice to get out and blow the cobwebs away, and a cup of tea when you get back home....family days out you cant beat them.....

Plant - no! It was a spur of the moment decision. I had nothing in to make a picnic with! When we got home I prepared 3 different meals for the 4 children (scrambled eggs, fish fingers, chips and peas, and a gluten-free version as well) and after realising what limited takeaway options there are in our village on a Monday, the grown ups had an Indian!

Sounds like a memory made, a tiring but fulfilling day and you do it because you are a brilliant grandma and nothing stands in you way not even the weather!!!
