    Two British balloonists battling to be the first to cross the Atlantic got into difficulties half way across the ocean. Their balloon finally collapsed into the sea, just 110 miles from land.

          I'm sure they must have been rescued Daisy.

          I'm too scared Oma. I saw a film many years ago about a tragedy involving hot air balloon and it put me off. OH has been in one years ago and really enjoyed it.

            Gem, some years ago we were staying at a camp site in Devon and a hot air balloon had to make an emergency landing. It quite literally skimmed within inches of our caravan - we were woken up by the noise of it - and landed in a clear space just behind us.

                  Funnily enough as soon as I heard the sound I knew what it was as we had previously lived in a house where hot air balloons regularly took off and landed in the field behind us.

                  Within minutes the lorry arrived to collect the balloon and give what I believe is the customary apology to the land owner - a bottle of whisky!

                            Sanquhar Post Office in Dumfries and Galloway became a Category B Listed Building. It is recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest post office in the world and has been in continuous service since 1712.
