Mum and I were talking about rationing on Monday, including petrol rationing. As we said, the average family didn't own car in those days. The rationing would be hard for those who did and needed it for their jobs though.

We didn't have a car in 1950, but we did when it was rationed for the Suez crisis. Dad used the car for the shop a lot - making deliveries and collecting goods from various wholesalers when necessary. I think he got extra coupons for business use.
