      Thank you Plant, interesting indeed.

      I enjoyed this novel and felt it really had a below stairs feel to it, as I could imagine the unseen happenings above stairs, especially when hints to the Jane Eyre story came in. You knew Rochester wasn't going to marry Blanche, and you knew he and Jane were going to return hurriedly from the church, unmarried!
      I don't know what the experience of reading this book without knowing and liking the Jane Eyre story would be. Did you all know the book fairly well?
      As others have said, the Martha/ Bertha storyline was improbable. It was nice to see the 'mad woman' given a better press and happy ending however
