    Sad to hear of this the end of an era Iā€™m not a big classical fan but he did some good music and seemed a very nice man I was surprised he was 89 blimey time marches on RIP sir

      89! Gosh I didn't know he was that old. That scene with Morecambe and Wise was hilarious.

          I thought he was much younger too, and that sketch with Morecambe and Wise was classic. I think he was the first classical conductor and musician to cross the divide between classical and popular.

            I was saddened when I heard this yesterday, and didn't realise he was that age.
            I always think of him as Andrew Preview, from the Morcambe and Wise sketch
