We won't be moving back until the end of Feb at the earliest Daisy. The bossy oven, or oven for people who don't cook but have oodles of money is a Siemens. The more basic one I chose has a 'Sabbath' setting which I thought was a good idea, prepare food and set oven on Friday so nothing has to be done on Saturday, then I wondered about keeping the food refrigerated over night. I know nothing about the Jewish faith and would be interested to know what can and can't be done. Isn't it funny how one thing leads to another? Maybe I should start another thread....

I don't know anything about the Jewish faith, except that on the Sabbath really strict Jews can't do any 'work'. A friend of our who used to be in the police force in London, Golders Green area, said when he was on the beat (long time ago!) old ladies would ask him to switch their lights on in their living rooms because they couldn't do it. Another friend who has a Jewish DIL keeps a Kosher kitchen when DIL visits. As for Sabbath ovens - that sounds like a brilliant idea. I wonder if there's a 7-day version???

The Shabbat (Jewish Sabbath ) which is from Friday night to Saturday night precludes a lot of things. Certainly you can't use the internet or the phone or watch TV. I know I would never have any communication with my friend in Israel on Friday nights or most of Saturday. I knew a lot about Judaism when she was alive but sadly I have forgotten a lot now.

I'm the same as Daisy I have a normal stove with oven grill and 4 burners. It's more than sufficienct for us, I think all singing all dancing are great if your really into a lot of home baking.

I also didn't realise you could get a steam oven but as I have only just caught up with the 'double oven ' option I can hardly offer any advice on the subject.
My old oven needed replacing, it was slowly giving up on me, the oven would turn itself off mid cooking but the gas would still be on ! The battery ignition wouldn't work and the oven door would open all on its own when ever the mood took it's fancy! Our new oven is much bigger and the double oven wasn't the reason for buying it , the fact that it was reduced greatly in a sale and it fitted the gap between my kitchen units (the old one didn't, it was very narrow) and it was in a smokey grey colour which I thought was a change from the usual white colour clinched the sale.
i use the small top oven far more often than the big oven as I am only cooking for the two of us and our meals are far smaller than they used to be ! Also by using the top oven I am using less gas as a small oven heats up sooner.

Mimi, your old oven sounds haunted!

Like my revered Ma before me I seem to have fed all and sundry and every passing dog for years. I started with a Jackson Topline (remember those?) and then a Carron range cooker which I had for ever. Nowadays generally there are only two of us, but when the family come we are 10. We occasionally have weekend guests and the odd supper or Sunday lunch for pals and that's when I enjoy cooking. Can't say I particularly like the newer recipe books though.

Feeding the 5.000 Daisy, isnt that 2 loaves and 5 fishes, or vice versa no need for an oven just lots of prayers then.

LG - LOL, I don't know, but I would cook the 5 fishes and bake the 2 loaves, and you could guarantee it would be the day I'd already put a big meat joint in the oven to slow cook!!
